The next episode of my "Analysis in Wonderland" history/review series. We're halfway through the first six weeks now! I'll confess I'm not especially happy with how this one turned out; I had a lot of technical difficulties in the course of making this one and I think it shows a bit. Hopefully it won't be too bad, though.
THIS SERIES FITS UNDER THE FAIR USE ACT CLAUSE OF CRITICISM. ALL SCREENSHOTS AND MUSIC CHOICES ARE IN THE PUBLIC DOMAIN. ALL OTHER IMAGES FOUND VIA GOOGLE IMAGE SEARCH. I OWN NOTHING. NO COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT IS INTENDED.
This time I have included a quick credits scroll so that the music and images are credit a little better in the video itself.

I feel like this one truly captures the feelings of nostalgia of one's childhood, the characters are odd, but act in a way that feel like they're what a child would imagine others would act- being imaginary friends rather than the bizarre and unpleasant characters like in the Disney one and to an extent in the original source

I remember having this movie as a child!! I’ve been trying to remember what it was as I old remembered snippets of it but I’ve finally found it and I love it!!

haha.. thank you for this video, it's wonderful. I wish we could see the cut footage of the We're All Mad Here scene. I agree with you, this my favorite version but I can't quite say why.

I disagree with you about the music. I think all the songs are great. This is definitely my favorite version, I'm glad to hear someone give this a little light.

The Me I Never Knew is such a fitting musical number for Alice and is also quite relatable for most people the world over. It's a beautiful coming of age piece and acceptance of one's true self.

The film’s cinematographer is Geoffrey Unsworth (2001: A Space Oddesy, Cromwell, Murder On The Orient Express, Superman, Cabaret etc) and the film’s editor is Peter Weatherley (the editor of Scrooge)

I love the music. I had the album. I was 12 when this came out. I have a recording of Camelot in which Fiona Fullerton plays the role of Guenevere. She has a lovely voice.

“We’re all mad here” would’ve been a great song title

Cole would have been amazing as a feisty Alice who could hold her own with the wacky residence of Wonderland, comedy wise in my opinion. I just stumbled onto your channel and cannot wait to see your take on the 1998 Alice Through The Looking Glass, for better or ill.

Don't forget the live-action/puppet-animated one by Lou Bunin, from 1949. A lawsuit from Disney kept it from a wide US release, but it's since gotten a bit of a cult following. It's an interesting take on the story.

I'm very well aware of that version, and I plan to review it eventually. My next review has been delayed for a month or two now because things related to the current...SITUATION around us have kind of made it hard for me to find time to work on it. But rest assured, I'll be doing more of this series, and the 1949 Lou Bunin movie is on my list for review. :)

How come you haven't done the stop animation surreal "Alice" from the 80s? It is very important to Alice fans.

Also you missed the black and white BBC version from 1966, probably the best serious adaptation, if not the best of all, besides the Disney animation! How could you miss these gems!?

Regarding your first comment: if you are referring to the Czech film by Jan Svankmajer, "Neco z Alenky," also known as "Alice" or "Something From Alice," starring Camilla Power as the voice in the English Dub, I am fully aware of that movie, have watched it a few times, have it in my collection, and fully intend to review it. Similarly, regarding your second comment, if you mean the version directed by Jonathan Miller, featuring the illustrations from "Alice's Adventures Underground" in the closing credits, with music by Ravi Shankar, and starring Peter Cook, Sir Michael Redgrave, and others, that one I enjoy even more, and again, fully intend to review it. I have a list of MANY adaptations I completely intend to cover in videos. Both of those are on my list. It's just a matter of time and inspiration. For the Jonathan Miller version, I've actually already completed my written review/script, so it's just a question of when I have the time and ability to make that video. Both will be done. I haven't missed them. They simply haven't been made yet.

the closest version to the books is the 1999 version, the Disney movie takes away the duchess, the gloves and fan, and the mouse in the corcass race. if you grew up with the 1999 version and then read the books afterwards you would realise how similar they are, and that the Disney version is not, no hate, I just feel like I'm the only one who knows it so people don't know that its the most similar one.

Coming from somebody who has seen a lot of different versions, I wouldn't say the 1999 adaptation is THE closest. However, it is significantly closer in adaptation to the book than the Disney film.
