The ISS is currently occupied by the Starliner, which is experiencing technical difficulties and is unable to return with or without its crew. NASA has indicated that they are unable to intervene and has urged SpaceX to explore alternative solutions to meet their contractual obligations. Meanwhile, Starliner has stated that they do not require assistance from SpaceX and expect to resolve the issue within a few days.

What is reported today by Ars Technica " that the current flight software on board Starliner cannot perform an automated undocking from the space station and entry into Earth’s atmosphere." sources described the process to update the software on Starliner as "non-trivial" and "significant," and that it could take up to four weeks. This is what is driving the delay to launch Crew 9 later next month." This is beyond shocking to me. Someone might have to "manually press an undock button in the spacecraft"

Kinda tip toeing around the fact that starliner isn’t working properly and can’t come back on its own to be replaced by a dragon until Boeing creates a software for automation. So unless the astronauts want to risk it they’re stuck up there.
