Looking at how advanced countries having these so called 'first world problems' and becoming a rat race society then developing countries like The Philippines must reflect and reconsider on how to progress without losing their identity, dignity and humanity.

Totoo yun dahil malaking naitulong nung Japanese coach nya pero muntik na rin syang mag quit dahil mag isa lang sya doon at wala syang makausap pag tapos na ang training at wala syang pagsabihan sa mga problema nya noon sa Japan dahil bata pa sya that's the negative effect naman noong I papadala sa abroad at magastos pa, buti na lang very supportive si Mam Carrion at di sya sinukuan sa gastusin doon. Kaya kung mai provide ng gobyerno ang world class facilities and hire good international coaches mas mabuti yun maraming gymnast makikinabang at sustainable pa.

I think it's the extended training outside the Philippines that we have seen with Yulo, Obiena, Diaz to a degree and Yuka Saso before she had to choose just being a Japanese citizen, that helped elevate these athletes to their max potential. It's not unique to the Philippines, and we would love more talent scouts to check out the country. That being said it feels off when he said that Yulo is just "lucky" when he is doing a lot of his performances with high difficulty which seems more like talent than luck. I think Hidylyn's win actually in 2016 when we actually got a Silver medal again seemingly boosted some morale too and with her winning Gold (and now Yulo) the flood gates may have opened. Now let's see if it will actually improve our sports framework or again we had to rely on general outside help based on the sport they want to master.

This is one of the most frustrating interviews I’ve seen because of the lack of knowledge of this “analyst”. First, the golds that Yulo won were not a surprise. He is always one of the favorites on these 2 apparatus. Plus, he has won medals on P-Bar. He won his first World’s medal in 2019. Even before that, commentators and gymnastics experts would heap praises on him because he had one of the best execution on floor exercise. He was always known for his excellent execution. Also, Yulo is not an average guy who became lucky and became better than everybody else. He has a rare talent and combined with training and hard work, he has become one of the best in his sport. Ma’am Cynthia deserves a lot of credit for identifying Yulo’s talent and potential. She has been the best advocate I have seen for anyone raising money and raising awareness that we have a great talent. Also, being friends with his competitors did NOT win him his gold medals. This is not a beauty pageant. Again, what made him win was his talent and hard work. Also, heart doesn’t matter in execution. It’s about artistry and athleticism. Perhaps, Filipinos did not believe that 2 golds were possible for Yulo before he won, but his Tokyo Olympics were so disappointing because he was a favorite on 3 different apparatus. Also, he has already inspired many kids to take up gymnastics. I hope there will be more who will take up this sport in the Philippines. I hope to see his brother in international competitions in a couple of years. It would be great to see the brothers compete in LA 2028. Sorry for the rant. I think it’s important to acknowledge that Yulo is a rare talent but he also worked hard for this and he has been training for a very long time. He has been successful in sport even before achieving his Olympic golds.

Gymnastics is one sports that's perfect for Filipinos. Plus its permutations--rhythmic gymnastics. Diving is another discipline that we can excel in--no height requirement, like gymnastics, Malaysian divers have reached world class standards. Badminton, the Indons have won golds for this sport that demands agility and fast reflexes. The first gold won by Thai women was in weightlifting. We should focus on these, drum up interest and support them with good programs.

Far greater than Manny Pacquiao because he fought for the honor and glory of his country, while Pacquiao fought for his own glory and money. If his country is mentioned in his fights, it is just but incidental because his country has to be mentioned as his place of origin during his fights. But his fights were not the Philippines VS the world but against an individual like him who fought in order to earn a living. Please do not use overachieving because we have not overachieved anything. I am proud for Mr Yulo’s achievement but that is what every athlete is aiming for and dream of. And he should be proud and the country should be proud as well. And may be this will inspire the government to support and make advancement in training our athletes so they will be able to compete with the rest of the world. And Mr. Yulo’s success is evident that Filipinos can achieve success in sports in an international arena if given the right training and support.

To say the greatest we should have a proper yardstick to measure greatness. - Athletic Achievement - Impact to Society/country/international - Name recognition/popularity I say in those yardstick, Pacman tops all of those with an argument for Athletic achievement. Go abroad and ask any foreigner when you mention Philippines, it’s synonymous to Pacquiao. Are you all forgetting the zero crime rate during Pacquiao fights? Pacquiao even has a valid argument as the GOAT of boxing. Can we say the same for gymnastics? Name any Filipino athlete that achieved those.

Pacquiao made us proud but he is not the GOAT in boxing. Maybe in the top 10 boxing greats. But look at Billiards, ask majority of his peers and sports analysts - Efren Reyes is the billiards GOAT of all time. You seem to be veering away from the definition of GOAT - players who are considered THE BEST (not one of the best or whatever) in their field.

Reyes and Pacquiao are on top of my list. Ask any professional billiards player/experts around the world who is the GOAT - more often than not they would say Reyes and he has more than 100 international titles to prove it. Ask any boxing experts and they will say Pacquiao is one of the best but not the GOAT. Ask gymnastics experts/or even gymnasts who is the GOAT - there could be so many answers but Kohei/Biles/Comaneci come to my mind. Another case of recency bias here. Greatness requires the highest of peaks and longevity of success. By these two measures, Pacquiao and Efren and Paeng are miles and away above others. They all could have easily won many Olympic golds if they were given the chance. That being said, Yulo's career isn't done. For male gymnasts, his age is just the start of his prime.
