why did we use I=prt, would this mean that the force of interest formula only works with simple interest?

The annual force of interest at time 't' given by ∆(t)=a-b^0.2t, where 'a' & 'b' are constants.Given that an initial investment of £100 at time 0 accumulates to £140 after 5 years and £180 after 10 years, find 'a' &'b'. I need help solving this question 🙏
