If you’re filming in 4:3 ratio well desqueeze process still be the same? Would you do anything different? I’ve only seen suggestions to always film in the native 4:3 ratio that matches the sensor… suggestions?

Hmm, well you mention filming so I'm assuming you're talking about video, but the DJI Mavic 3 can only shoot 16x9 and 17x9 aspect ratio for video. If you're talking about 4x3 photos, you'd just be desqueezing them a little to maybe something a little more wider rectangular. But if you're listening to cinematography groups talking about how to shoot anamorphic video from a regular camera, then 4x3 might indeed be the way to go for something like a Panasonic GH6 or Sony A7SIII. But remember, this lens filter I'm reviewing is just that: a filter. It's not a true anamorphic lens dedicated to producing this effect. So a 4x3 video clip desqueezed with this lens filter will likely be less wide than even a regular 16x9 clip..

Hey Ed. I'm in a pickle. I picked up the filters and am SUPER stoked about the potential they offer. But when using the ND on the anamorphic I tested out today, I'm getting a strange lightness on the right and left sides of the frame. I double checked that everything was installed correctly. It's almost like a vignette, but light instead of dark. Did you experience anything like this?

Depends if you need the updated specs that the Mavic 3 provides. You might find that the DJI Air 2S is a cheaper alternative that still supersedes the Mavic 2 in terms of specs and capability.

I'd research what anamorphic actually means ;) Good video, but anamorphic has nothing to do with angle of view or aspect radio (black bars).

That's the main purpose of the filter though. To get a wider aspect ratio approaching the cinematic 2.39:1. It's not an anamorphic lens, just a filter.

@@EdRickerVlogs These anamorphic adapters are not filters. They are used to create a semi anamorphic squeeze, so they do manipulate the image dimensions. Do some research into why anamorphic lenses were created in the first place and the answer lies there. I'd image the main reason why someone would want to use these is to match other footage that was shot anamorphic. It's a way of using optics to fit more width on the cameras sensor.

@@BrendanCleaves I searched anamorphic lenses and found, "They were primarily created so that a wider range of aspect ratios could fit within a standard film frame, but since then, cinematographers have become accustomed to their unique look." Ok so that feature is what I explained. If someone only wanted the different aspect ratio, they could just crop the top and the bottom of the footage. This adapter* enables us to get those unique aspect ratios without losing part of our image, or as you phrased it, using optics to fit more width on the sensor. It's assisting with a cinematic look that we're going for, of which it's one facet. Maybe I didn't tie it all together enough or say it eloquently enough.
