Start with a character’s desire, fear, and misbelief, then the character arc writes itself! :)

@puglover8983 what's a misbelief?
@hannah502128 күн бұрын
@@crystalpierce7220 Its a bit hard to explain but its the character's main belief that drives them towards what they want the most (aka their main goal). It is a "mis"belief because what the character wants is something contrary to what they need (aka what they have to learn in order to grow and complete their character arc).
@Amy-ts9gm27 күн бұрын
@crystalpierce7220 A misbelief is the opposite of the lesson your character learns. For example, if the lesson the character learns is “I’m loved” then the misbelief would be “I’m unlovable”

I find plotting to be the hardest part of writing so ur plotting videos are always my go to
@twigz-h1g26 күн бұрын
Kind of unrelated to video: for anyone struggling with boring characters, the best way (in my opinion) to write a character (that works for me) is to put yourself in the mindset of that character or think of what that character would do in a certain situation. I usually create a doc and list a bunch of different situations that makes sense for my story and write out what I think that character would do! After you get to know your character it will be easier to give them the depth they deserve! For example, if my story was paranormal and my character was in a graveyard and saw a ghost, what would they do? -Would they run away? -Would they try to shoo it away? -Would they try to approach and make friends with it? -Would they try to attack the ghost? These could be indications of your characters personality and it could give you a wider view on the character you're struggling with. REMINDER: this is what personally works for me, and probably won't work for everyone.

no y'all don't understand i have an amazing world where the magic system is being blessed by celestial objects (MC is blessed by the moon) and the magic system is the only reason there isn't any wars (the solar system can't destroy itself) but i'm honestly stumped on how to plot from there but there so much good material :((( update: people blessed by the moon are seen as subservient to people blessed by the Earth (bc of how the moon orbits the Earth), they want equality but can't fight for it. PLUS there's a revenge spree the main cast goes on for after an undisclosed event. i'm actually so excited!

STOPPP MY MC CHARACTER IS ALSO (in a way) BLESSED BY THE MOON 😅😅😅
@luuijfui169328 күн бұрын
That does sound fantastic! Wow wow wow I'm always in such awe for any- magic systems or power/fight systems, because my brain is quite limited. Hmm... Talking about limitations, maybe its because your system has lack of limitations? Because through limitations, solutions to things become a lot more creative. Some very..like odd specific rules.. I'm honestly not the one to ask about this, for all my five projects are plain character driven
@KittyKatMN28 күн бұрын
Okay ideas here… If you need some conflict think of reasons that someone would want to change the power balance (in either direction). Maybe they have power stolen from a black hole? Maybe it’s uncontrollable, but ego won’t let them understand that? Maybe the power sources are weakening and the characters need to find out why/how? Maybe the blessing leaves a character for another? Jealousy and anger ensues. Maybe the character who is blessed with magical powers is unable to control them and in turn hurts someone/thing and throws off natural balance? Maybe then they are seen as the villain in their community?

Here's my notes in this vid! {PLOTTING PROCESS} BRAINSTORM • Problem + Solution -> Every story needs this -> Climax = solving of solution -> Inciting incident = start of problem • Set your novel's world CORE OF YOUR STORY • What your story is all about? • What's the 'thing' in your book? • Brain dump (everything that you think about your story) Ex: -A relic is missing, MC needs to find it to save the town. SCENE SETTING • Scenes needs to take place in a specific setting. • What ACTION can take place in this SETTING? • Write a setting scene list Ex: PRINCIPAL'S OFFICE -MC learns smth about the school -MC gets expelled -MC learns principa is the villain etc.. MESSAGE • Story's message is expressed through your characters. • Plot line can change character's beliefs etc., • Start with a character's: -motivations - desire - belief - fear - misbelief -etc. (you can add personalities to them too or reference from other famous fictional characters.) ACT STRUCTURE • play around with structure for your plot. -Incident -rising -climax -resolution • Make your villains active players, make them more present in MC's life. • Actions must have consequences side notes: • Brute force your way through the plotting process (It can be difficult to write your plot, sit down and work on your story to try and figure it out.) Good luck in your writing!! ❤

Soemthing that I do when I need ideas is go to ChatGPT (hear me out) (This literally happened today, like this exact story 🥲) So I go to ChatGPT and say “give me random things to happen in my book” then it’s all ‘the main char water finds out a secret’ n stuff and me and my freaking anger issues are like “NO YOU DUMBA$$! Give me an idea for a book (for example: going into a cabin)” then as ai is being sucky I start thinking “wait maybe they can go to a cabin” Basically: I just think of very very vague random things to happen and i think now why would that happen suing the context of my book and BOOM idea This might not work for you but it works for me so I just wanted to share

I'm currently working on the first draft of my story(basically a retelling of both red riding hood and sleeping beauty). The characters are now named Ceil and Rhen since Rhen kind of sounds like red to me. I've have finshed the prologue where Ceil follows a glowing fog throughout the halls of the castle and ends up being put into a deep slumber after,as for chapter 1 I'm up to the part to where one of maids is trying to find him after she noticed that he wasn't in his room when she tried to wake him up.
