Anaphylactic Shock | Shock (Part 6)

In our 6th lesson in this series on shock we take a look at anaphylactic shock. We break down the anaphylactic shock pathophysiology in to the two types; immunologic and non-immunologic.
From there we cover the anaphylactic shock signs and symptoms that your patient would be exhibiting in order to help you recognize this in your patients.
Finally we cover the various anaphylactic shock treatment modalities in order to help provide you with the tools to be able to management a patient in anaphylactic shock.

Thank you so much for all of your video content. They really help break down such complex topics in ways that are easier to understand. I do have a question for you though in regard to the slowing of the AV conduction with H1… so I understand tachycardia being a common sign for anaphylaxis but then how does the slowing of AV conduction come into play? Wouldn’t that ultimately cause some bradycardia? Or some type of arrhythmias?

Hey Melanie. Great question. So like so much we deal with, its not a simple answer. Essentially though you are correct in your thinking. We do have risks for bradycardia as well as arrhythmias with anaphylaxis. Initially, even before hypotension, we often will see tachycardia though as a response to the catecholamine response.

So correct me if I’m wrong but basically, AV conduction slowing aka bradycardia/ other types of brady arrhythmias would ultimately be a late sign of anaphylaxis if not corrected in a timely fashion?

What about PCWP, Cardiac output & SvO2? Do they change like in Septic shock?

PCWP will be reduced due to decreased volume due to vasodilation. Cardiac output is initially high, then can decrease. SVO2 will be low but can progress to high later on, which is an indicator of increased mortality.

Sir . I am from Bangladesh 🇧🇩 I really like your videos. Sir , Exactly 4 month ago I took a Rabies Ig vaccine then suddenly I feel Dizzy and chest pain .And i was seat down immediately on chair. After 2-3 minutes I started to feel good. I was not going to the hospital this time. I had no skin rash nothing. Just suddenly feel dizzy and had chest pain for 2 minutes. Now after 4 months I have no skin rash. Does it was Anaphylaxis or something? I will be waiting for your Ans. Thank you ❤

Hi all and pls help me out to understand the situation, I had gone for CT abdominal contrast iv , as dye inserted in my body I start feeling the dye travelling whole body and felt allergy like bee is biting whole body, i stand up and asks rediologist to stop immediately and fainted, after some time when I wake up I peed in my pant and Doctor told me we have given you CPR. Let me know how normal is this ? Can I live life normal and this will not happen again, how is my life expectancy, my all body vitals are ok ,I kept 1 day in hospital to check my vitals. Pls help me out it was shock or cardic arrest. This will definately give me idea what was happend to me actually. Will be appreciated. Thanks God bless everyone

My mum died of an anaphylaxis shock and the doctors couldn't find out what she was allergic to be a use an allergic shock causes it, is that normal and is it a pain death, what happens during one.
