Daniel Lavoie is a native English speaker and can speak fluent English. I've heard him speak in interviews without the hint of an accent, yet here it is very strong. I wonder why?

@Cafww 'ANÀΓKH is the word wrote by Hugo. It means "high destiny" in latin Fatum. Anarkia means without government

The translation somehow makes me laugh:-D They change Gringoire and Frollo into a different kinds of persons. "Je ne me serai pas permi" and "she never lets me near" have totally different meanings, and so do "tu es un possédé" and "why do you bother me".
@HingYok15 жыл бұрын
"Je ne me serais pas permi" means "I never allow myself to" (I asked my French teacher about this sentence when I was learning this song) and "tu es un possédé" means "you are a possessed".

@Cafww look to french version, its not a translation that anarchy means destiny, its written in musical that anarchy is destiny

ugg, ANÁΓKH, not Anarchy. It means Fate, Doom, Necessity. And wow, Frollo must have been bored to have the time to carve it that BIG. Well, at least Jehan's not running in confusing the matter by saying it means "fatality" like he does in the book.

Len D Oh okay now in libretto it’s truly ANÁГKH we can finally love it whole from the beginning till the end)

French version is wrong too it is "ANANKH" not ANARKIA ANARKIA means nothing either in Greek or in any other language! It's seeing this word on the walls of Notre Dame that Victor Hugo had the idea to write the novel. He wondered what lost soul write those letters on the church. Frollo was born. Interesting, isn't it?

in the common language french does not pronounce the last e in the word but in poetry and in a really ROYAL french it does son betwwen "une" "inscription gravée" there is the e that sounds

@TheMidgeUre It's wrong in both versions, then? Drat! I was hoping the French version, at least, had the correct word. I wonder why they used Anarkia? A faulty attempt at pronouncing the word in the book?

The translation blows, but the part with Frollo asking about Gringoire and Esmeralda's sexy times does make a little bit more sense.

Graceful Headdesk hey it was harder in the book, just read it. They were talking about sex for some minutes
@mariepilie15 жыл бұрын
"Je ne me serais pas permis" means "I wouldn't let myself do something like that" and "tu es un possedé" means you are possesed... Personally I think that "she never lets me near" is more real!!! hahaha PS: Try with the italian version, its wonderful!!

Eh, I don't really like this scene in any language. It doesn't really fit, and it don't draw any connection between Frollo and the word. Both of these actors are amazing though.
