Yurdaer Doğulu was born in Gaziantep on April 7, 1941. When he was just 9 years old, he began making music - at that point by playing the mandolin. The artist, who had further been playing Oud and Kanun throughout his early youth, ended up choosing and fully pursuing the guitar as his main instrument, as a result of his interest in Western music.
In 1957, while being in high school, Doğulu founded his first professional band, called the “Jupiters” (“Jüpiter Kenteti”). The band took the stage in different venues in Ankara. Doğulu, who had begun his university education at Ankara’s Faculty of Science, ended up graduating from Istanbul’s Science Faculty with a degree in Geology. The main reason for him having come to Istanbul had been to work as a guitarist in the “Erol Büyükburç Orchestra”, which he ended up doing for about 2-3 years.
The first time Turkey participated in an international music festival was the Balkan Festival. Therein, the National Orchestra, in which Doğulu was the guitarist, took the first place. In addition to this, Doğulu, who has been representing Turkey in international competitions for a total of three times, released 4 LPs and 30 45er records. Yurdaer Doğulu has received the “Arranger of the Year” award many times and further won the “Golden Record” award with his “Elveda Meyhaneci” record in 1972. Further, he is the father of Ozan Doğulu and Kenan Doğulu.
The song “Karadır Kaşların” on Yurdaer Doğulu's LP “Ve Sihirli Gitarı” from 1972 belongs to Mustafa Tuna. Mustafa Tuna had lived in Eskişehir Seyitgazi during the 1940s. Him and Raziye were in love with each other, but their families were against their marriage. Thus, Mustafa Tuna decided to kidnap Raziye. As the couple fled towards Eskişehir at night, their car overturned, which resulted in them getting caught. After the accident, Mustafa Tuna was arrested while delivering Raziye to her family. He was sentenced to 2 years in prison, due to Raziye having been underage. In prison, Mustafa Tuna wrote many of his poems, such as “Karadır Kaşların”. While in prison, he learned that Raziye got married to someone else and left Eskişehir after having been released from prison.
