I had hoped you would explain why after developing a great series, they would end it in such a ridiculous way. While the scandal of the wife's allegations might bring down the government, it certainly would not result in arrests. Both men would consult attorneys who would tell them to keep their mouths shut. There would be no evidence that the deceased student took drugs, that the drugs were supplied by the PM or that the PM taunted the student to fly in his his intoxicated state. The wife's testimony could only be used against James, not the PM, and it would not be much on which to hang the prosecution of such a cold case. Very sloppy ending by writers who otherwise did a great job of holding your attention. I would give the early episodes a B+/A-. but the ending a F.

@@smith3329 What facts? No proof that the deceased took anything, if he did, no proof of what he took, without James ' testi , no proof he got it from the PM,etc. A political scandal perhaps, but as someone who prosecuted for 15 years I can tell you that you have no case against the PM and not much of one against James. The ride in the police car was silly.

I thought the show was more realistic than most courtroom dramas, other than it was completely unrealistic that Kate would take the retainer. I am sure anyone with access to the internet could have figured out that Kate was Holly. And no QC is going to put half on a conflict of interest that could jeopardise a criminal trial. So she'd be content for Olivia to not be vindicated and unemployable just so she could confront her own assailant? As soon as he was charged, she could have confronted him in the press. Seemed a bit cowardly to confront him in her disguise of silks and wig. Even if there are no criminal charges, it's hard to continue to be PM as a former heroine dealer or to continue as a Minister involved in a cover up.

The Holly twist was so silly I couldn’t get past it! Then he’s supposed to be convicted for…. Not stopping a friend’s suicide?! And it just barrels past the fact that the suicide was apparently MINUTES before he raped someone! What?? “Oh my friend died, there goes the ambulance! Oh a drunk girl all alone! I don’t recognize her even though she hand out with my girlfriend!” Worst of all the accuser is only defined in relation to the accused. How the assault, media coverage, and trial actually affected her are cast aside while the show spares plenty of time to how it affects the man in his career and personal life. She is never explored outside her moments in the courtroom.

Ending was ridiculous, Calling the police to tell them your husband of 20 years, while at uni, Saved his best friend from killing himself. Then running and laughing with the kids by the sea, As if the kids are over the moon they won't see their Father again. A father who clearly believed he was having consensual sex with these 2 woman. There was no hero in this story, and no hero ending, no moral to it, nothing to take away at all. Maybe , don't tell your wife anything, that's it. It does do a good job of raising the law of consent issue. That it can be withdrawn at anytime, and how we Inteperet that. So I'm glad it was made. But the moral of the story was ridiculous.

Exactly. That's what I don't understand about partners who forgive affairs. How can you believe someone who tells you had an affair for months that it was a mistake. One night stand maybe, but more than that, it was done purposefully. Like I read somewhere, there two types of people: the ones who can forgive affairs and the ones who can't. In my case, I certainly can't.

Loved the show, and thought that the jury gave the correct verdict. It was a case of he said/she said and there is no way for the jury to determine guilt. What he did to Holly didn’t seem like rape, either….although he was aggressive, she said she was fine when he was done. They were both drunk and I’m sure he didn’t see it as rape. He was a wealthy ass who thought he could do what he wanted, so I was happy with Sienna’s decision to leave him and report him for the crime in college.
@rashelelashley
@rashelelashley 2 жыл бұрын
I agree with you, except with the crime at college. Happy she left him, but they committed no crime. They were all drinking and taking drugs. He took his friend away, they were already out the doors leaving. The guy who jumped was so high even if he was "told" to fly, being high was his doing and an unfortunate accident. Also they ran and threw away the drugs, but they did not commit any crime and again, he told his wife this other than that, there was no evidence or proof that they did anything wrong, other than take drugs at a college party. Very weak argument and unjust arrest. It was better if they had tried harder to convict him of the rape, which as we both agree was also a very weak prosecution.

I expected a thriller mystery, but what I got was biased nonsense. What James did to Holly was rape, but what he did to Olivia was not. They were in a relationship, and then James ended it, but Olivia didn't want that and probably felt used and decided to create the situation to get revenge. Nowadays, all it takes is a single accusation to end someone's life - guilty or not guilty (Brett Kavanaugh). We see two different stories and never actually find out which one was true, and since James was found not guilty, we have to assume his story was true except for him denying that deplorable phrase he said. They were in a relationship for several months, and are no strangers to having sex in various public spaces, but she decided to draw the line at the elevator for whatever reason (which is totally fine), but she never actually said no. What confuses me, even more, was the ending. How did Sophie give a tip to a journalist about what happened between James and Tom 20+ years ago? She has no evidence to support her claim and is therefore meaningless. It will be just another political scandal that is ignored. However, James is obviously going to know it was Sophie who leaked that information, and if we are to believe he is this powerful monster, he will divorce her and probably get full custody of the kids because he has money and can afford the best lawyers. He will destroy her, and yet, the show ends like it was a happy ending for her.

@rashelelashley
@rashelelashley 2 жыл бұрын
Agreed with everything said, I said the same thing. Even the rape of Holly is questionable since they were both drunk! The crime at college if any crime at all was negligence and nothing else. They were both already out the door and leaving. The unfortunate accident with the student who was high and jumped was not their fault, even if he was told to fly, clearly if he was not high he would not have done it. They were all doing drugs, that was 20 years ago at college for goodness sake such a weak arrest and stupid plotline!

I enjoyed the wigs, the Old Bailey, and the Oxford den of inequity. Though the Crown would not have lost her job over the prosecution, I am sure the Chief Crown Prosecutor would not be happy. So the PM supplied heroin (which is probably worse than David Cameron putting his p-enis into a pig on the table,.....) but all were willing partners but the failure to assist was nasty, but in the UK, is that unlawful?

I enjoyed this program very much. However, there are shades of gray here. "Assault" in the elevator... Hmm. I advocate for women, and, myself, am a survivor. However, in my view, if you begin to permit, and to engage in a passionate kiss, embrace and intimate encounter, and "allow" the sexual play you enjoyed during your past sexual relationship with a man, you may have gone too far. Men (my opinion), read those signals as a woman's approval..... The question becomes: Should the word "NO" have happened sooner? This guy had a history of ignoring, on at least one occasion, the word "no".. Seemed that he and his wife had a very happy physical relationship. As history shows, remaining faithful in a marriage isn't always easy for men or for women.. but I believe that for men ,rationalizing that "it was just sex" seems a lot easier..

I was admittedly upset that James’ case was convicted as “Not Guilty”, not only because of what he did to Olivia and Kate, but because he’s a truly detestable man. I can understand why the ruling went the way it did, though. From the POV of someone who is an outsider looking in, you wouldn’t know all the facts, and it would seem pretty likely that Olivia was a spurned mistress trying to ruin the life of a successful, upper class man with a nice family, who made a big mistake. I’m glad, however, that Sophie finally saw through the lies, omissions, and half-truths James threw at her, and left him. Heck, I thought she should leave him for cheating, anyway. And I love that she didn’t reveal Kate/Holly, and instead gave another chance to bring the man she once called her husband to justice, and that Kate will be the one to go against him once again.

I'm a feminist and watching this film made me think of fairness equity and truth but I can't help but ask why does Sophy not expose the truth abouth Kate/holly? Why would she keep the info about the unethical practice holly did by prosecuting a known accused but exposed the other bout her husband. She is as much part of the system as James. It was wrong though what James did, he deserves a lifetime, if not two, for each behind bars.
@moonlightwolf200

@@samsonmubeya3635 Well, because if it WAS revealed, Kate/Holly would lose her job. That’s what Kate was worried a lot about. And I’m not exactly sure, but I think the reason she kept the info was because: A) To give Kate another chance to see her rapist put away and see justice served. Sure, James couldn’t be put away for the crime that had also been done to Kate, but she could get SOME closure putting him in the hole herself B) She wanted to see James put away for her crimes, and who better to make sure to get EVERY SCRAP of evidence than Kate? Sophie did admit in that conversation with James (when she told him she was leaving him) that she had been complicit, and she was done with him and his lies. She feels that James shouldn’t get away with everything, that he should stop getting off scot-free. And this is Sophie simultaneously giving an apology to Kate and punishing James, wiping her hands of him. Or at least, that’s what I think😅

She most probably came to the conclusion based on some incident that happened with her and since she couldn’t have it her way back then decided to have a go at it again on screen. God knows she’s uuuggggly enough to fit the bill . I don’t understand what kind of ssstupid people would rate this garbage so high . A wife eating out her husband based on nothing but a spur of the moment negativity for her husband and without taking into account all of the 12 years of marriage and how good he had been as a husband and a father . Not to mention he being faithful to her throughout except for that one incident. I say again , this is the stupid director getting even in her sick mind to a personal experience she endured .
