The past 3-5 years have seen an increased amount of development and change in the Linux graphics stack, and we are getting closer to having a modern graphics stack that we can finally call home. This presentation will examine the component parts of the new world order from the kernel modesetting, along with memory management systems like GEM and TTM, up the stack to what is left to live in userspace drivers like the X.org and Mesa components.
Also with things like KMS now achieving maturity, we can start to turn the open source focus onto more userspace pursuits like getting from OpenGL 1.5 to 4.1, and using the new features of the graphics cards (even if only to play Windows games in Wine), and developments like the Gallium3D driver framework.
The talk will also touch on some of the issues facing open drivers and how things are shaping up in the embedded battleground.
