Anatomy of an Oracle Collection + A Quest 🗡️🎠🐉

This week I decided to take you through the anatomy of my oracle deck collection, talk about some of my troubles finding good oracles that work for me, and lay out the terms of my quest to find some good ones !

I have about 200 tarot decks and maybe 5 oracles. I prefer learning the system of tarot and find most oracle messages and art too fluffy and unstructured, so I only buy one occasionally when I like the art, such as The Archeo, The Arboridium, and Illuminated Earth. I've been having a similar journey with oracle decks, I did a video about why I struggle with them a few months ago and have been deliberately trying different ways to work with them since (and actually recently filmed my oracle collection, there must be something in the air!). One of my favourites is the Sustain Yourself oracle, it's from the same creator as the Voyager tarot and I feel like the 80's vibes nature image collage might be up your street? Love the Outgrow Yourself too.

It's an option to buy the Rose Alchemy without the guidebook :) There are one or two small letters to the sides of the images to identify them but no keywords. That's the way I chose to buy it and it's beautiful.

For anyone wondering, the Alcheringa deck is now Viator Somniorum! It's now printed on sustainable cardstock in a tuck box. Very shuffleable. Awesome video, as always!

I love Poesis oracle, Oracle D’OR is another one that’s deep, Arthur Rackhams original oracle is beautiful and Begin (on Etsy) is another favorite.

same experience. I 've been seeking a cartomancy tool with a comparable depth to tarot but with a different system, flavor, and approach. And it's just insanely difficult lol. But i'm drawn to oracle decks because tarot reading requires a lot of skill and attention, and sometimes i just want to take it easy and not have to work my intuition brain as hard with cryptic answers. I have the same issue. I almost never use oracles. I don't know how and I cannot find anyone I like. I have 80 decks 64 are tarots 2 playing cards 2 Eteilla, one Minchiate one Tarocchino, and then 10 oracles with I have used only 2😅😅😅😅😅😅

I randomly bought the daemon tarot by Ariana Osborne(which is actually an oracle) because It seemed like it would go with my steampunk tarot and it's actually pretty interesting. All of the illustrations are taken from the "Dictionnaire Infernal" and then the guidebook has some of what was written about each daemon as well as a short divination message. My other recommendation is the Magick and Mediums Oracle by Anielle Reid. They do have a decorative gold border and the art is sort of ....sepia toned with some pink/red accents. Key words range from basics like "listen" to more specific magical terms like "elemental magic". The guidebook has short divination messages but also has fairly lengthy info about the different magical practices (I haven't really gotten into this part yet though....I was mostly drawn to the art). I did find myself wishing the gold on the deck was gold foil so I got a clear sparkle gel pen(sakura stardust clear) and went over any gold areas in each image with it to give it some sparkle which was actually kind of fun. Its also a deck that I can pair with a lot of my busier decks to kind of tone things down which I appreciate. :)

Loved getting to see your collection. An oracle deck I couldn't be without is The Wild Unknown Archetypes Deck! It is a great general reader and can stand on its own, but it goes great with collage tarot decks of all kinds

I ended up getting the Wild Alchemy cards and I really like them so much. Good luck with your search of oracles. I’m not sure we jive in tastes but I love The Wild and Sacred Feminine Deck. Published by Shambhala. Deck by Niki Dewart and Elizabeth Marglin. Or Coastal Curiosities.

This was great. My oracle practice is ever evolving. Outgrow Yourself is awesome, but gives me inner teenager vibes. Fallen Angels was intense and sometimes downright mean. I recommend… The Poesis Oracle - the keywords aren’t too out there, but the imagery is a bit quirky. Morgan’s Tarot - definitely out there and super 60’s vibes. The Divining Poets might be interesting for you. There’s Rumi, Clifton, Dickinson, Yeats. It doesn’t have imagery but certainly the lines that come up will keep you engaged and thinking. I know you said you didn’t go for celestial type decks, but The Avatar Oracle has gold gilding. I’m excited to see what you end up with. 😊

I admittedly haven’t worked with it a ton, but the Sacred Destiny Oracle is MM and has fun early digital collage that reminds me of old desktop backgrounds. The keywords are expansive and the landscape-only element may make it easier to pair. I’m a bit surprised you don’t have the Morgan’s Tarot oracle deck, the keywords remind me of the Tantric Dakini and the 60s vibes are great. It’s one of my personal favorites and it’s also MM.

I think you would like the Crystal Sound Healing Oracle. It has abstract watercolor elements, photography, and sacred geometry. It is new age-y but it is so unique in spite of being mass market. Every card has a qr code in the back that is linked to a 44-second audio of singing bowls. Keywords are unique, in my opinion

Bea Nettles has a small black-and-white photography deck about menstruation called 28 Days. It is its own vibe, but it is also only $5.

Yay! I’m so glad you decided to get the Death Doula Oracle. I actually just got it, myself. I very rarely pay full price for a deck, especially not an indie deck. But I finally gave in, and I’m so glad I did. I absolutely love it. It’s gorgeous and feels so good in my hands. And it’s definitely not your average fluffy oracle. (I have lots of fluffies, and I love them.) I think you’ll be particularly impressed with the depth of the guidebook. Only a small portion covers card meanings. The rest offers corresponding rituals and useful information. Can’t wait to hear your thoughts!

The Fuzzy Prism by Holly Simple is my fav to pair with the Zigeuner tarot. I find the art sparks creative readings for me

I so enjoy the tone and pace of your videos! Thanks for sharing your collection. For me, oracle do tend to have specific uses, whereas tarot gives a more general reading. I've bought more oracle than tarot this year because I keep coming across interesting ideas in oracle. Our tastes are not very similar but I enjoy seeing how your choices work for you!

I'm not sure how you'd feel about its art (or if you mentioned it and I missed it!) but in terms of oracle decks with gold borders, you might could look at the Symbolon Deck. It's a mass market (AGM) oracle from the early 90s, I think? It can be a bit of a hassle because there's no keywords printed on the cards, only astrological glyphs. Apparently it's meant for past life memory recall or whatever, but I'll be honest, I don't use it for that. The images are inspired by history, mythology and psychological concepts and for me that makes it exceptionally readable for anything, and I've never had a problem using it for whatever I wanted.

I've also struggled a bit finding oracle decks I really connect with. My personal favourites tend to be either keyword-free, e.g., Yarn of Mama Shamana, or simple objects e.g., Empty Cup Oracle. I don't know if it's your thing, but I wonder if the splashes of gold in Materia Prima would look good next to something with gold borders.
