Most ancestors are happy to be remembered so feeding them what you eat is fine. It's best to give them whatever foods were their favorites, but if you can't afford some of those things, they will understand. Something is better than nothing. Blessed Be!

Yes, I feel that my team delights in _my_ delight. I remember/re-call and outwardly acknowledge them in prayer and praise, and they love/enjoy/appreciate my wit- laughter {esp cheeky 🥰} and intellect/learning, but I mostly honor them [all] _within self,_ by what I do, and how I do. 💖 Sometimes folks "do too much". It's good for each to do what feels right and good to their soul, but putting too much pressure on oneself does _no_ favours, and _honors no one._ Blessings.🙏🏽🤍

@Blessed Me your ancestors will let you know. I've known of food that should have been bad after a day or so last a week. That's a sign they really like it and are still enjoying it. On the other hand, food that should have lasted a week gone bad in a day. Usually means they don't like it and want you to take it away. There are many other examples. I hope this helps. Blessed Be!

I think it depends on the ancestors. In my family, many were mainly pescetarians (sea food and rice with some vegs), and had one ancestor who focused mainly crops that grew in the farm, beans and rice. It really depends on the ancestors, so it is important to do the research and learn the family history. 🤷🤔 I even had a buddist chinese from mother side who was a vegetarian. I do however understand that that most did had pork and chicken, but to overlook at those who lived on specialist diet is being dishonest and also imposing some dogma. I would hate for my grand-nephews and grand-nieces in the future to leave me some pork offerings knowing full well I haven't touched it for decades in my living life. They are best to leave me some green tea and tofu at that alter or they will face a very angry tia spirit. 🤣🤣🤣 Anyways this is why the first step is knowing your heritage and family history. I tend to leave sea food, rice, beans, salads, because that is what my family ate. I am careful who gets what. I don't want to mix up dishes. Anyways thank you for the directive. Ase!

If you have a closed loved one who have passed away, how do you (or do you) keep them in mind throughout the day, month, or year? Some people will go to their resting place. Others will keep cremated ashes. While many others will pray for them around the table with family or alone. I see people in the States, we set favorite foods on our loved ones grave. If someone came to you and knock the ashes on the floor or stepped on the food on the grave, you may be upset. That "upsetness" or "connection" you have with your loved one when setting those roses down, card, or food on the grave has been disrupted. Dissonance. When you sit food on an altar for your loved one, you feel that connectiveness you have with those recently deceased you loved. The point is to connect with your deceased through that personal energy (holy spirit?) by the things you offer. You can say its symbolic but not many would use that term if the connection and experience are real. If you are christian, think of it like going to christ and giving an offering (as they did in the bible) because of what he has done for you. That's the spirit/energy/connectiveness people have with their ancestors. Offering food is saying "thank you." They don't eat it, of course, just as you can't shake christ's actual hand, but that's not the point. Sorry for the long answer 3 months later. Hope this helps.

As someone who half of their ancestors are to say in layman's terms "Hindu", I disagree, but okay lol. I would actually say my own food choices are because of them. Some folks have Muslim ancestors. And so on. I get your point here, but it's important to acknowledge that Blackness isn't a monolith. Some folks have ancestors from places other than Africa by way of the transatlantic slave trade, while having that as well. And without conflict in honoring them together. Hope this is helpful to anyone else of "mixed" ancestry.
@sandhya315

@@KaiPhDNothing I said was really in disagreement with that? Like in fact that's specifically what I said. I spoke to something specific. By your logic, Everyone is Black because we all trace ancestry to Africa. It's technically true, but culturally and in many other ways it's missing the point.

It seems like she's talking about African and African Diaspora ancestors specifically. I'm mixed. I just do what each set of ancestors wants. If they want you to do something, you'll find out. If a custom involves placing your favorites on the altar, you can do that in addition to what the other customs dictate.

So no. Her audience is much more mixed than that. In addition this channel isn't for folks who follow ATRs etc explicitly because anybody that is a part of those traditions would be receiving instructions from their elders in those traditions. In her videos on this channel she repeatedly speaks to a mixed audience although her own spirituality is centered within ATR and African Diasporic spiritualities. I said what I said. Hmm I think a little more research should’ve been done in this topic because Asian cultures and religion like Buddhism often leave fruits and never meat. Not to mention the majority of Hindus DO NOT eat meat but do engage in ancestor worship and also use fruits and vegetables as offerings. I get it that perhaps in Yoruba tradition they must use meat but to speak in absolutes the way you have makes it seem like you have to offer meat regardless. Not all ancestors consume meat.

I don't think you should force opinions on eating habits here, Not all witch's leave food for their ancestors as well I don't do that I leave food for the spirit world no matter who or what they are I'm guessing this not a channel based on traditional witchcraft and paganism but more so based on Caribbean beliefs,some people believe that killing animals who are living beings is senseless and cruel, I don't think it's really great to promote the suffering of animals it's actually ignorant many witch's including myself worship nature it's is our God, diminishing a life force of a living being who feels love,pain, sadness happiness is wrong in many ways I don't need my ancestors to be who I am today understanding that cruelty to animals will never be forgiven by our planet mother nature is watching while her children are hurt and suffer, I'm not telling people what to do I'm bringing insight to people who may not know how much of a negative impact they are having on our planet by killing animals for food 😞 unsubscribed.
