The Ancestral Women theatre project was inspired by the Ancestral Women fiber art exhibit created by Mary Burns. Each piece of art honors a Native American women and/or a clan from each of the 11 tribes in Wisconsin. Each tribe worked with Burns to choose the elder represented in her artwork. In the theatre project the artwork comes to life with the help of coordinators Tinker Schuman, Carol Amour and Christine Doud, who have brought together relatives of each elder who share in story, music and movement, Ancestral Women, weaving a tapestry of personal stories, tribal history and the interconnections of all living things.
