I have a 1 cup Fire-King (Anchor Hicking) measuring cup with red writing. Must have had it for 30 years and the markings are as bright as the day I bought it.

Would be great if you'd have compared how they pour. My ancient set of Pyrex are terribly messy and I am trying to find replacements that pour more precisely.
@Mapl3Syrup Жыл бұрын
Pyrex pours better from my experience. My anchor has repeatedly dropped water down the side and on multiple occasions has gotten very hot water on my hands while I make my morning coffee. Too cheap to replace it so I’ll put up with it. As for thermo shock resistance I’d say it’s pretty good ! Haven’t put it to any severe testing

I'm thinking technique. Do you hold it above or do you set it on the rim? Ask some elders. Good luck

I am also interested in pouring characteristics. My ancient Pyrex class measuring cups have no problem. I just had 2 cup Pyrex measuring cup break and replaced it with a new Pyrex 2 cup measuring cup from ShopRite. The new one drips badly while pouring, with at least one quarter of the flow adhering to and running down the side and hence onto the table surface. Is the Anchor Hocking 2 cup glass measuring cup any better? I am not interested in Oxo because I much will not use plastic when glass equivalent is available. A former work colleague told me that his wife, who was a high school art teacher who was highly skilled in ceramics had told him that the drippiness of any pour spout is fully a function of the precise shaping of the spout. If a high school art teacher knows this, why aren't the manufacturers of measuring cups and pitchers equally knowledgeable?

I'm a electrician at Anchor Hocking Glass and you would probably be surprised to know that we have produced pyrex glass ware in our plant. I haven't seen measuring cups for pyrex in the yr and a half I've been here but I have seen pyrex baking dishes that we made.

My OLD Pyrex markings are still present (I’m talking well over 30 y/o) I have a newer set and I need to replace due to the markings fading and they pour terribly! We do have an 8-cup Pyrex which will keep but I’m planning on getting 3 pack Anchor Hocking to replace the others. Primarily use Cascade Pods.

WARNING….. this guy doesn’t know…. lower case “ pyrex “ is PRONE to explosion in a microwave. ALL CAPS “ PYREX “ is not prone to explosion in the microwave. Both types are made of different types of materials. So it depends on how you use these items.
@j.d.3269 Жыл бұрын
Really? Is that official or anecdotal? I have many pyrex, but only a few PYREX.
@millylarz Жыл бұрын
@@j.d.3269 It's official. PYREX is the borosilicate glass while pyrex is soda lime glass, they have sold that pyrex licensing usage to other companies so quality is cheaper (parent of both is Corning) . Anchor is also that cheaper type of glass. Basically it's never been a good idea to take very hot glass and then cooling it rapidly or setting it directly on a cold surface, but now that they're cheaper materials they're prone to the shattering unlike borosilicate which is more durable.
@j.d.3269 Жыл бұрын
@@millylarz Thank you very much for the information and your advice. None of my pyrex exploded, but it's better to be on the safe side. I'll look for PYREX going forward. Thanks again.

This just happened today, I poured gravy from the frying pan into the cup . carried the cup to the table, then I saw i had more gravy so i poured that into the cup, i picked up my fork to stir it and when i put it in the cup Boom, it shattered into small pieces it broke kind of like safety glass. it took me over an hour to find the pieces and I hope I got them all. I have two cats hopefully they don't find any more. I have used Pyrex almost forever, I don't have a dish washer and the markings on my cups are still quite readable. You may like anchor hocking but when they blow up like a hand grenade they are not worth any price to me. .I never had that happen before. Glad I only bought one.

Thanks for sharing your experience. When I was researching this video, I saw something about these types of things happening. I think it's when there is hot liquid in it. I don't know why it happens though. I think it can happen with Pyrex too, but I'm not sure.

I found a deal on a new 2cup measuring cup for $2. Got it home and then it hit me. It is a left handed model...or it is canadian/european??? If holding it in you right hand, the.metric.measurements show up. If you hold it in your left hans, you see US measurements. (Cups, ounces, etc)

I just learned there is a difference between pyrex vs PYREX brand. PYREX is made out of borosilicate which is better to avoid breaking and hard to find in US. Made more for European market.
@6.2ltrv85 Жыл бұрын
Unless bought before 1998 I believe. Before that, they were made from the borosilicate. Both brands are made out of lime soda glass I believe today.

Any stickers or adhesives can be removed by use of a little rubbing alcohol also bandages just be careful around eyes and genitalia.

The reason I'm here is just that problem, my Pyrex is losing it's measurement paint. I use the powdered dishwash detergent I buy on Azure Standard. Brilliant stuff, only one Tbsp per load and the dishes sparkle. I was hoping you would do a pour test. My Pyrex one cup always dribbles when it pours.
@DadReviews3 жыл бұрын

Thermal shock can tear some glass up. When in doubt when pouring hot grease, stick a fork in the container for a heat sink. I have some old Pyrex anchor Corning glass casserole dishes that have melted edges. I went back to the local thrift store to buy an Anchor Hocking measure cup. Has metric and standard. No apparent bottom wear. Soak it in some warm soapy water. Madge sold me on Palmolive. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jGqknnx5arKsgLs. I'm looking into heating the chip at the spout or wet sanding it with silicone carbide sandpaper.
