Hi everybody, this time we are leaving Fjäderlång and heading to busy Utö. We explore the island a little and end up with some drame exiting the anchorage. We hope you enjoy it

Yes - fascinating with the mining @ Utö, and really nice Värdshus...Indeed, a bit messy when we moored there last summer as well; also had a speed boat bumping into us when leaving - wouldn't let us leave first, which would have been more convenient for everyone as on leeward...but more dramatically, an even less experienced jack-tar than me got the mooring line of a 46-footer looped around his ancle, and then back though the mooring ring - while the vessle reversed back out...that foot joint would had snapped like dry spaghetti unless some vigilant onlookers had noticed what was about to happen and quickly intervened! So nice to watch your videos while trying to keep my boat dreams alive...

Wow! Sounds like you had a really interesting time in Utö, that could have been really bad with the line. Soon it will be summer again, we are doing some interesting boat projects at the moment, all good fun in the winter. Cheers

Theoretically you have a point that it is beneficial to charge your LiFePo4 batteries slowly... But then again... You have 600Ah... No matter how you try to charge them it will be slow! Your batteries may have an expected life of perhaps 2000-4000 cycles. I have been living in my boat full time since July and according to my BMS I have run 36 cycles on my batteries since then. How I see it is that no matter how hard I charge my batteries it won't affect the lifespan. If I run the generator and the dynamo at the same time, I have the opportunity to charge up to 200A to my batteries which are 700Ah @ 24v. 😊

Indeed, mainly I charrge them slowly so I don't get to 100% too fast and it stays there for a minimum amount of time before we leave the dock again. Thinking about it some more, your right about the charge, there is only 40amps going to each battery. I think I get the impression it's pusing them hard because the charger sounds like its working very hard :) Sounds like a massive system you have there, I am jealous. I've been tempted to switch to 24v a few times. This winter I am upgrading the alternator, that should make a difference also.

Our yachts are quite big, I strongly advice not to use sternanchors i that kind of crowded holiday people harbours, anchor well outside, enjoy the free space 😊 use the dinghy to go ashore

I see where you are coming from, not too many places to anchor nearby in that part of Utö though. Usually everything goes smoothly... until the wind gets up

Nice to see you! and as usual fun to recognize the places you visit. Nice that you show some anchor tangle too! A tip that almost everyone misses, including port staff. If you get caught in someone's anchor line, release the anchor line of the boat you are stuck in, then it is easy to get your anchor up and free it from the other boat. and that the other boat's anchor is not pulled off the bottom. I'll see if I can find a link to a video where I get stuck and do that.

I absolutely love all of yall's videos and appreciate the work that goes into making the sailing content. I was in Sweden in August, rented a small boat and took it out to Sandhamn, love the videos and can't wait to get back to the archipelagos!

Thanks for the complement. Sweden is a great place to sail, we enjoy it at least. Shame the season is not longer though :)

Thank you for those lovely memories of Utö. Had been there one day after midsommar - the harbor was a complete mess.

Your more than welcome, we love it there. I think it's always a mess there, they should really but down docklines or dredge the dock further down for bigger boats

@@SailingAurora Oh "mess" I was talking about the trash people left behind. Gladly there were paid people to clean up

@@wjhann4836 ahhh I see what you mean. It was ok when we were there, I really hate it when people leave trash lying around though. It seems to strangely happen more where the ferries come in with people from the mainland 😉

with chain you can drop it closer to the boat in these small harbors. The line you are using will not drop directly and will make a bigger loop in the bottom so chances of getting it to another anchor is bigger than with chain. Nice video again.

Your probably right there, we were fine until they moved the anchor. Good lessons learnt though

You had the tool for that anchorline hassle, the hook and moor. With that you canvwrap a short line around the anchor line an lift it off your anchor and then easily drop off the other anchor line.

True that, we haven't really used the unique feature of the kook and moor yet. If we had the bathing platform down, it would have been easier to sort out. Cheers

Why does everyone moor bow to the rocks? Can you not moor stern to?
@SailingAurora
@SailingAurora 5 ай бұрын
Only where you have enough depth so you don't hit the rudder. It's very rare to find rocks that go that steeply down.

Literary, this happened to us two years ago in Utö. Someone pulled our anchor and didn't tell us. This summer, it was just crazy busy in there. Maybe I will not use the marina next time and anchor in the middle, a bit in the north.

Might be an idea. In a strange kind of way I like the chaos of it but not so find if the boats get damaged. You might be onto something if there is a place to anchor nearby

Thanks for this video and summer feelings! What kind of material your sails are? Not dacron, as I was seeing some black narrow stripes in fabric?
@SailingAurora

Thanks so much for the comment. The sails are FCL, so laminate sails, from Elvstom, they perform very well.

Great to see that you don't use life jackets at sea either. There is no wind and you have a big modern boat, so what can happen? Besides, modern life jackets are so awkward to wear.. ;)
@SailingAurora
@SailingAurora 8 ай бұрын
You have a good point, we use the jackets when we are not in between the islands and the wind gets up but we should wear them all of the time. Guilty as charged but we will continue sometimes without in calm conditions
