Brilliant device for our canoe anchor!!!. After setting it up and testing release tension on land, it works beautifully. Small pair of pliers helped at this stage. Having bought the additional pear-shaped quick-link, it's easy to pop it back together ready to use again - without needing any tools (on the water) The Trip Link stays intact after release, which I'd missed observing initially. Many thanks for this invaluable invention. No worries about having to leave my anchor behind if it gets trapped now.

So what's to stop it doing that under normal loads?

The link strength is set stronger than the current, if the anchor is not caught up it will come up as normal, if it is caught up you need to pull it using the weight of your boat for the larger one, or Paul it hard by hand for the kayak version.

will this work for big boats? or rough tides when banking? idk... seems like it came apart way too easily with that 1st pull.

This is the kayak version, the bigger version is for boats up to about 25ft. Some windlasses are an issue in use though.

If you feel that the conditions are going to be concerning or you are not attending the helm all the time, you should not use it.

I don't understand why a normal pull on the chain caused by a current doesnt break the link and release the anchor too.

The force of a stiff jerk ìs far greater than the force of the tide especially up here in places like Queensland

Straight pull would be fine...any side pulling with changing current or wind and you will be on the rocks....

I'd like to know how it goes pulling up over the roller of the bowsprit for and anchor that is permanently connected to a windless? I have found that the load of pulling the shaft over the roller takes quite a bit of load and can cause other methods to trip..

Grant Ball. I understand the problem, windlasses are set up to be powerful whereas the trip is set up to be weak. Unless you can control either the power of the windlass or the stopping position, catching it before the power kicks in at the end, this will always be an issue. I have no answer I’m afraid. Paul

Try something that will break down e.g light weight wire. The ocean does not need any more plastic in it

I would never trip an anchor. An anchor is there to be used in an emergency first and foremost. If you value your anchor more than you do the safety of your boat, then by all means, trip it. If you are concerned of losing your anchor, either take a spare or use an anchor trip kit. This involves sending a ring down the anchor line which sets at the bottom of the shank. You then pull the anchor up from the crown. Alternatively, attach a trip line to the crown with a trip buoy attached. Leave your anchor chain attached to the shackle. Don't find yourself in a situation where you are being blown to a lee shore, drop your anchor and it trips. It's now rendered itself useless!

And if you do make sure it's captive, ie doesn't fall off when broken, further contributing to the plastic in our oceans. For this reason I've ordered a triplink from Paul.
