Got an Arethusa obverse horse & palm tree reverse "people of the camp" tetradrachm a few days ago. Cost an arm and a leg but love it!

Thank you for this. My parents were from Sicily, and I have been there a couple of times. You just gave me motivation for my next collectable coins.

I have a didramma from Calabria. It has Poseidon’s son on a dolphin, holding a dolphin. It is my favourite coin that I own. Such a work of art.

I have a single Syracusan coin, a little obol with an octopus on it, I would love to get more from Syracuse but the price is too steep for me at the moment.

Go for the bronzes! Take a look at my video on "Affordable greek coinage", there are some beautiful bronzes of Agathokles and others with very good artistry that wont break the bank!

@@ClassicalNumismatics yes, bronzes are good too, and more cheap. I own a lovely (and heavy) AE minted by Hieron II.

Incredible how the reverses of the syracusian coins inspired the roman republican denari reverses. Now we know where they got that idea from. Amazing quality video and information thank you.

Syracusan coinage is absolutely spectacular. It makes perfect sense other peoples would use them as a reference for beauty.

Syracusan bronzes arent prohibitively expensive and just as beautiful, you should look them up!

My Carthaginian silver "stater" from between the 2nd & 3rd Punic wars is a very poor quality of silver. Highly debased while the bronzes also feature the Horse & palm motif.
