This is the sort of history lecture which honours the likes of Herodotus and Thucydides! This is the patrician-like dignity of scholarship which used to be in our institutions. History is not supposed to be just a subject, just the art of teaching is supposed to have beauty and meaningfulness to it, just as the Ancient Greeks knew everything, science and mathematics too, should. This channel is a gem. Thank you, Father

I really enjoy listening to your lectures. The fact that they're available on the internet gives me hope. Seed sown in men's minds. Who knows what type of fruit they will bear in the future?

Herodotus History of the persian wars was the my favorite book purchase in my life. Reading it is like consulting an ancient, its the closest we have to time travel. Long live the father of history.

this was a fantastic video and have listened to it several times. It's packed with lots of great historical information, and it is without conjecture/assumptions. Thank you!

I find it hard to reconcile the claim Themistocles was hedging his bets with the arrangement of the Greek fleet under Themistocles' direction to take advantage of Xerxes taking the letter at face value.

Very nice presentation. I had no idea that the word nike comes from "νίκη". did they also build a temple in acropolis called nike? there is certainly one in there but I do not know when they built it. I am a native greek speaker and I do not know how best to help in some pronounciations "Μαραθονομαχοι" should be read something like "marathonomachi" "oi" is pronounced as e or i as in taxi. when you see οι ΟΙ think of e or i as in taxi. forged the "o" in "oi" oi=i.
