@ 3:19 The hot oil cracked the glass due to "Thermal Shock". Oil has a higher thermal expansion coefficient compared to hot water. When hot oil contacts cool glass, it rapidly heats the glass, causing uneven expansion and potential stress points that can lead to cracking or shattering. Awesome science experiment. 😀

Please, Please, if you are using a "Glass/Pyrex" item, warm it under hot tap water before pouring a stove heated liquid into it, also adding in a metal object, like a spoon, helps to keep the thermal shock from causing it to shatter like you experienced. That aside, thank you so much for this video, this is exactly the kind of thing I am fascinated by, using herbs and oils in such a technique.

Dr. Mondragon, As a student of history in college, when reading about the practices of the ancient greek & roman athletes, I always wondered what these practices would have really looked like! Your video answered a lot of questions for me! Also, when I was in school, they 100% taught us that athletes were 100% nude in the gymnasiae when training... And that always struck me as kind of strange, and I doubted it, as I had never seen any direct evidence that this was true. Those pictures you put up in the video of athletes training with some clothing on makes a lot more sense and when I did a little more research into the subject I got the impression that historians & archaeologists may be beginning to change their minds on the whole nude thing. It's a great lesson in, "just because that's the literal translation of the word, doesn't mean that we can make assumptions about culture & practice, especially without direct evidence." Anyway, I thoroughly enjoyed your video. It was cool to see something different on the channel, and it is obvious to me you are a history nerd like I am, & I can't wait for your upcoming videos on Avicenna. As a student of Arabic, I am 100% certain that will be an awesome video!!! Thanks again! ❤ Alex from Ohio

Maybe a video would be a great idea too!! Happy new year to everybody with good health and wealth and luck🎉❤

experimenting suddenly is try and error :) next time use a thermometer when heating the oil, a temperature from 70°C to 80°C is sufficient to release the active ingredients

Well, that was interesting, hearing ancient greek here 😊. The work of Galen (or Galinos in greek) is indeed of great importance. There is almost no field of medicine with which he was not involved and his research, especially in the field of pharmacology has an effect to this day. Today, various health related institutions in Greece have his name.

For the herbs, use a bouquet garni. For the oil, apply low heat for one to two minutes, keeping it below room temperature. Cool the oil overnight with the bouquet garni in the saucepan. A safer method. If you have time an infusion. A bottle, cold oil, bouquet garni seal and leave for a month or two.

I'm not sure it's necessary to smoke the olive oil if the aim is to flavour it with Laurel. Infusing the oil in a water bath seems sufficient and there's no risk of breakage. However, it takes much longer, about 6 hours.

I doubt the gladiators had much choice in the matter as virtually all the gladiators were condemned criminals, slaves or prisoners of war. Even if they were a free man, meaning they fulfilled the number of fights necessary to walk away from the collesum, they were generally considered outcasts and feared by the Roman People as they were for all intense purposes deeply violent people.
