I see some brackets, but what does it mean?

The brackets show where text on the original scrolls are not visible - so the translators made a reasonable assumption to what could have been there.

Everything its literal with Gautama. "Don't fix your mind on this house or on that one." Just don't have a strong mental attachment to any particular house. 🙂
