Part 1 in a 6 part series. The Maya were once believed to be peaceful stargazers, and their hieroglyphs were for the most part undecipherable. But discoveries in the 1940's led to the cracking of the Mayan code and the revelation that there was a far darker side side to Mayan culture than ever imagined before.
