Despite the occasional audio issues, this is one of the best documentaries about the Viking ships. Rediscovering the old techniques and how everything (man, machine and processes) worked together for a successful raid. Thank you to all who have made this possible.

Thank you for the uploading this. Not sure this is the right niche, however if anyone's interested both in Norse and naval warfare (ancient/Medieval) I hotly recommend Schwerpunkt's videos series. That channel tells you a lot about naval technique that I hardly find anywhere, at least on KZbin

Beautiful history! ❤ my ancestors fought with Wilhelm and conquered the world! They would have sailed those ships with fierce determination and hope and were handsomely rewarded when they arrived in England! Fortunes come and they go unfortunately but they continued in the shipping industry right through to their emigration to New Zealand in 1861 starting a rope making business here 😊

Love the Roskilde museum, it’s awesome!!! We got to get on the new Sea Stallion and bend it like the skipper was talking about, and play dress up with Viking clothes inside the museum.

Ms Vibeke Bischoff - thank you for your explanation at 21:10 Based on your in-depth knowledge and experience, would you say that the 'original boatbuilders' (Vikings, in this context) were doing Science. If yes, why would that be so? Or is it simply trial and error, experimentation and reflection - but not yet a threshold of Science per se? Thank you. Fantastic and enjoyable documentary btw. Subd.

I expect the Vikings would have used star navigation , as well as wave formations , wind ,and current & tide movement and water colour , the way the Polynesians and other seagoing peoples did .

Viking shipbuilding are clearly advanced. Though i think they are highly similar to the Phoenicians preferably Carthage shipbuilding.

@chris.asi_romeo Mediterranean ships was buildt using carvel, or mortise and tenon techniques, scandinavian ships used clinker technique. There is a big difference in the way they sail. Carvel ships can carry a heavyer load, the clinker buildt sails much faster.
