I’ve seen this same type of dancing in many European cultures with a few differences. I was talking to a Polish teacher who was convinced it originated with the ancient Scythians. Do you know how old this dates in your country?

Old norse rumors indicate that the newcomers (the norwegians) learned this kind of dance from the native Sami people that lived on top of the snowy ice in Norway with their reindeers when the ice cap started to withdraw. The Sami people even introduced skiing to the newcomers that stole the idea from the Sami people and presented it as their own invention.

I’m not sure about the skiing history, but there is a lot about that dance that speaks Western and Northern European, but definitely with some unique traits. Musically dissident, and exotic, that speaks older Germanic styles. The history of Scandinavians vs Sami in terms of region occupation is a bit more complexed, because they share much of the same hunter gather, Neolithic and even some of the same Steppe ancestry, via Corded Ware culture. The Sami having some more recent, relatively speaking, Siberian ancestry. It’s true that the Sami tended to occupy the North were as the Germanic / Scandinavians were more to the south. In many regards the Scandinavians have been in that region just as long as the Sami.
