Watch this mini 14-minute tour of the Ancient Egyptian antiquities of the British Museum. Footage was taken in March 2020, one hour before closing time so I was limited in the relics I could see and record.
I've focussed on the relics of Ancient Egypt, as well as ancient Assyrian exhibits and the enigmatic basalt Easter Island statue.
I show you first-hand the colossal statues of Egyptian pharaohs Amenhotep I and III, Thutmose I, III and IV, Ramesses II, the hugely important Rosetta Stone, a fragment of the beard from the Great Sphinx, the Assyrian reliefs that showcase the famous 'handbags' and an ancient Moai statue from Easter Island.
Some come and take this mini tour with Matt from Ancient Architects and please subscribe, like and comment below.
All footage is taken by Matt Sibson and is owned by the Ancient Architects Channel.

works fine for me. wild sound is always an issue. you could always add a music track under the wild sound to give the "museum noise" a spooky effect. It is a shame to me that we will never experience these objects in their intended space / natural environment. thanks for another great video

Nice video! Did you catch the new Indian temple display. Looks awesome! One of the statues there is called 'Tara' the goddess of compassion. Oddly enough there is a shiva lingam on the hill of Tara in Co. Meath - the stone of destiny.

Thank you for giving us this small tour of the British Museum. It is a thrill to see this with you taking us along so we can see how fantastic the carving is done on the statues of the 18th dynasty and the scale they are done in. I have been a fan of ancient Egypt since an elementary age and I’m now in my 70’s. This has been wonderful to see.

You know I realized at the end that this is a really wonderful thing to see and right now I’m really grateful for just a heartfelt really happy feeling to be able to go to museums and as soon as this outbreak of the coronavirus 19 as a team down I am going to start going to museums more often. Sometimes you don’t realize something until you can’t do it until it’s gone and just the fact that we can go to museums but now we’re not able to go anywhere or do anything because the whole world is quarantine and many things are shut down as of yesterday it was a pretty scary moment in time

Thank you; one of my favourite places in the whole world. Have been going there for 55+years that I can remember, i can remember lying in one of those huge sarcophagus! In those days the reading room was surrounded by dirty/scrappy "temporary" offices & storage, the wonderful Great Court, not having been built until the late 90s,by Foster&Partners from a 1970s design by Colin St John Wilson. For anyone planning to visit, those wonderful pieces are in a Hall to the left as you enter and the Mummys and other smaller Egyptian artifacts can be quickly accessed if you climb the left hand staircase wrapped around the reading room and cross a bridge, directly to 2nd floor. One of the tragedies of this( & every other museum, worldwide, though percentages will vary) is that only 4% of the incredible collection is on permanent display, which to my mind argues for a 2nd British Museum somewhere in the Midland/North of England. I'm not an advocate for return ,as regardless of present day perception, much of the collection was bought, from the various Pasha's in power in Egypt at the time and we'd have nothing to see if they'd been left there. With our present abilites to reproduce to the mm, reproductions can be sent. They are then also safe from the dodgy political situation, which might at some point see a fundamentalist attack on either the monuments or museums in Egypt itself. If the Government of Egypt can't guarantee safe passage for visitors in the present day, then these incredible collections are still available around the world, in part to the general public(,for free in UK!!!) AND to academics to study, without bias of the Hawass type! Looking forward to another "on location",maybe one to do with your knowledge of British ancient sites? Very best to you&your family and anyone who's read this far 😀 particularly at this very uncertain time in the world!👋🌟✌

That museum is the sort of place best suited to excursions for specific exhibits, it seems to me? Haven't been for a few years now but when going I confine the visit to specifics. Easy to be overwhelmed there. To consider as much, as is on display? They likely have 3 times as much behind the scenes, or on loan? I have mixed feelings about the British Museum..

If you would like to provide some insightful information then one way would be to closely examine those sarcophagi to see if the hieroglyphics appear to have been chisel made or are too smooth and perfect and had to have been molded. If they were molded from stencils then the entire sarcophagus on which they are seen was molded also...from artificial stone concrete.
