Thank you for introducing and teaching me Shogi a year ago. I ran into your videos and something about Shogi hit me like a nail. I've tried to spread the word about this amazing chess variant since then. Defiently going to get the animal version to teach my girlfriend and anyone else one day. Just wish it was more popular as i want to play this in person more. Keep up the great work!

Thanks for the good and encouraging comment! Yes, shogi really is a great game and deserves to be spread around. I think if I could just play one chess form a lot, I would choose shogi. I hope you do succeed in finding interested players -- I'll be working on it from over here .... :)

Thanks -- I just posted this and you're my first comment! Judging by your avatar, I think you'll like the manga books too :)

Ah, really useful products. I bought some of these during my visit to Japan (primarily for shogi stuff) though I wasn't able to find English books on shogi.

Thanks for the link. I like that you included the internationalized pieces and manga as well. I'm a fan of shogi manga/TV drama/anime and I've been checking some out myself.

Someday I should do a parody of "Don't Cry, Zefiro" with my talking numbers, probably as an episode of "Numbers' Fan Club" called "Don't Cry, Zero", about Zero starting a chess club with Sixty-Four, the grandmaster, going through emotional states of checks and hard pawn formations, hoping for famousness and to be a grandmaster.

Shogi Manga might just be the most Japanese thing ever. ^_^ I'm going to check out the Lion game. Question - does the full-scale version have all the pieces needed to play the scaled-down versions? Thanks for the video!
@AncientChess8 жыл бұрын
Good question. pretty much, but not exactly. The large version uses the giraffe and elephant as rook and bishop (arrows on the piece show that they move continuously); whereas, the small game has dots on those pieces showing that they move only one space. Also, the full game pieces are smaller and have promotion values on the reverse sides. So ... yes, you could play the small game with those pieces, but it would be a minor adaptation.

How can I get international shogi pieces

I purchased the standard professional set along with the wooden board, and I love it! However, I have difficulty teaching others with this set... I'm interested in the 9x9 doubutsu shogi set, but it seems this is no longer sold by you... will it be available again in the future? ...I may settle for the single kanji set if the price for the doubutsu set is significantly higher... Anyway, thank you for making quality versions of this wonderful game available at a reasonable price!

Thanks for the message. I do have some 9x9 sets, but sorry, I don't have them listed. I also have some sets with pieces that have move diagrams on each piece ... but sorry, also not yet listed. If you contact me through the web site, I can make arrangements with you ... otherwise, I'll be trying to list these soon as I can. Rick, AncientChess.com
