My church choir is singing this on Easter. It’s an incredible piece of music, and you all perform it beautifully.

If I am not mistaken, this is arranged by Dan Forrest. I have loved how this sounded ever since I heard the arrangement done by Dan Forrest. It made the hymn sound more true to its emotions. Soli Deo Gloria!

It was written by Dan Forrest. He is an AMAZING composer! He recently composed a new one called "We Believe."
The lyrics are fantastic and the singing is good, but in my view this new music does very little for such a classic hymn.

lacase111 With respect for your opinion. It is the Dan Forrest music that has catapulted the Wesley lyrics of this old Methodist hymn into newfound life.

For me, it isn't the music that is lacking in this performance. Don't get me wrong, the singers are good... it's just that I find that this particular piece is much more moving when performed by a full choir to really add depth to the arrangement, and there's some nice 6-part harmony that a quartet just can't quite cover. It's an added bonus if you have a full orchestra accompanying as well. As an example: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jKapgWaHgr-Hd5I
