Gabriel's grandfather played guitar and apparently made records years ago. Gabriel's father plays guitar and is the music leader and paster at a church in Brazil. So Gabriel was raised in the church and grew up around music and singing. I have seen videos from the church and the music style is contemporary with a "rock band" style. Gabriel's older brother, Rafael, plays bass guitar and also plays keyboard. So, the entire family is musically talented. I think that Gabriel was just. born with a (super) natural gift from God for music. Gabriel said in an interview on the Jennifer Hudson show that one day his father put on a cd by Whitney Houston playing the song "I will always love you" and that Gabriel (only 3 years old) started singing along with Whitney. HIs father was amazed and said something to the effect "Wow! this boy can sing". Gabriel's brother, Rafael, was on a video podcast / KZbin Video on the "Canto do Zero" KZbin channel. (Canto do Zero translates to "Singing from Zero" meaning the creator is a vocal coach who wants to teach people who can't sing at all (starting from zero) and learn to sing. Anyway I have watched this video. It is in Portuguese, but there were English subtitles added. The subtitles are a little hard to follow, so what I'm relating from that video -- I may have some of the details incomplete. Anyway, Gabriel's brother, Rafael, said that when Gabriel was 6 years old, his father took him to a voice teacher / vocal coach in Brazil to see if she could help Gabriel improve. His brother said that at that age Gabriel was somewhat mischievous. Gabriel had only been in the room with the teacher a short time. So, when the teacher asked for his father to come to the room, Rafael and his father's reaction was "Oh, no, what trouble has Gabriel got himself up to?" But when his father came to the room, the teacher had tears in her eyes (tear of joy) and said, I cannot teach him anything. He could probably teach me! But, Gabriel's father really loved Whitney Houston, and also liked Mariah Carey. Since his father probably played their songs a lot, Gabriel just naturally learned to imitate them, even though English was not his native language. As best as I can tell, from reading comments made by others in Portuguese and translating to English, Gabriel had a recording contract with a Brazilian Gospel recording company - I think starting around age 14. After that contract ended, Gabriel started his KZbin channel. Another interesting thing that his brother said in that interview on Canto do Zero was that many babies / toddlers when they scream or cry out in a shrill high pitched are actually "whistling". Most babies outgrow / lose that ability as they get older. His brother said something to the effect. "I guess we forgot to tell Gabriel 'You aren't supposed to be able to do that anymore'" Sorry this is so long. But I think Gabriel is amazing. He deserves so much recognition.
