Read down Michael. Jim was my Mum Mavis' cousin and I recall spending some very happy times in Dryden Bay as a teenager in the early 70s

Thanks for sharing! When was she built, how many feet is she, and what powers her?

Hi, 40 old fashioned feet, built 1967 in Picton by Carey's boat yard for Jim Fishburne who was commercially fishing the Cook Strait out of Drysden Bay. I believe she was a home-design, additional dead-wood to the keel to ensure she tracked backwards in the bad wind against tides typical of the area, extra Australian iron bark timbers along the chime and scantling for a 50 footer. I believe Jim wanted something fairly bullet proof that if she broke her mooring as was quite likely where she was based, would not bash herself to bits on the beach. I believe she was originally powered by a Gardener LW, I see the original books are still on board and the engine was later upgraded to the 6LXB she currently has.

Nice one! How is the Gardner running? I am in the 'same boat' with the renovation of SeaFury here in Nelson. Good luck and keep posting please!!

Gardener is a sweet old engine but having a birthday at the moment, a couple of issues with the reduction box, acronym for BOAT is holding true but can't help it, needs to be done otherwise Boat becomes only a float, hoping to get it all sorted and know the basics are up to scratch, I have a face book page also Picton's Northern Start the Boat, feel free to join and post about your own boat, photographs, updates would love to see some pics
