SO very many great memories when I was 18 in 2002 and went clubbing, discovering such a different side of music compared to the radio. And One, Wolfsheim, Wumpscut, Die Form, L'ame Immortelle, BlutEngel, Funker Vogt... so inspiring, so glad to have lived through that era.

I think our generation got to see the best of this era of music. The late 90's to mid 2000's was a golden era to be sure. I remember New Year's 2000 we were lucky to have VnV playing locally in LA. Catching these types in small venues didn't last long :)
@sebastianashbury2478 Жыл бұрын
@phyrr2 Seriously! I adored the Metropolis compilation CDs they had at Hot Topic. So many great hits from back then kept my rivety butt on the dance floor. Even up to around 2008ish when Ashbury Heights came out. I think the end started with power noise around the same time.

It seems like the entire song is an explanation of the internal fissures in thinking regarding escaping parental abuse. The duality of staying/leaving, needing to do the right thing for one's own sake/fearing the consequences of not being a good kid. The line in that duality of choice is very erratic and fragile - we like clear-cut things in life and this duality can not be reduced easily, it is as if living multiple lives in parallel, moment to moment always wondering if the other choices were better. Of course escaping abuse is always the right choice as an individual, escaping hate is necessary to thrive as a person, but that is something we learn years after escaping, or we never escape and do not learn how to be ourselves.
