A wise woman once told me “if someone won’t take no for an answer, they’re trying to manipulate you”. You do not need to apologize for guarding your privacy. You have an obligation to yourself and your family. It’s amazing the number of people who don’t know or respect boundaries. Don’t worry about offending those people it’s their behavior that’s offensive, not yours.

I'm a private person and we don't even answer the door unless we know who it is. Had plumbers come recently and they were so disrespectful of our home that I didn't have them come back to finish the job. So that being said, I agree with you 100%!

You shouldn't be so worried about offending people. We as a society have gotten so sensitive, say what you mean and stick to it! I wouldn't want strangers at my house and if you choose not to either then no need to feel like you have to explain why. Your house, your rules! I love learning from you! Thank you!

Wow! Some people 🙄. Just because you are in the public eye, does not mean you owe people a journey into your home. Honestly, I wouldn't let the public on my land excluding the home! It’s sad you have to tell complete strangers that they aren’t welcome to your home. Patara, you are the bomb and youdrop gems every week on KZbin for us. I’ve learned so much and feel like I’m on the farm just from watching. Never back down, you are absolutely correct. People don’t realize that you aren’t homesteading for fun. I’m surprised we even still have access to this knowledge. You are literally preparing us as you prepare your family.💕💕

Well said! More and more over the past ten years I have found that there are increasing numbers of people who are not much interested in how to can, grow, or preserve but they are VERY interested in addresses and locations. Some are even very open about their intentions and quite cold in their attitude.

Good call. The only call moving forward. In terms of "saving the world", no, that's not something individuals should be engaging. You are producing, you are showing a path toward self-reliance to people; that is incredibly valuable. Just walking the path you are walking is doing more than 90% of people will ever burden themselves with (sad but true). Well done.

Hope the message gets through to those who were ill mannered. We had relatives in the past that had farms. We never just stopped by unannounced because we knew they had their routine/ chores with animals and crops. I think people sometimes are not thinking. You have to do what’s right for you and your family. I had a wise teacher in high school whose favorite saying was “ A word to the wise is sufficient. “. 💕from Ky.

You are absolutely right, your privacy comes first. Living in South Africa teaches one to be very strict about who can come onto your property, in this country you cannot trust anyone. We live in a gated community and we still do not feel safe all the time. You follow your own way of life, nobody has an automatic right to just expect to be welcome at any time. Thanks for your videos, I love the goats!! Stay safe and happy. Greetings

I am guilty of breaking OPSEC and showing my pantry. I want people to know how to build their own and I enjoy watching others. We have several security measures here and by no means will I ever show the full extent of our resources. Friends have made the comment "If the crap hits the fan, I'm coming to your house." They got a few lessons in prepping and they now take care of themselves and anybody that knows me, knows they better be bringing a useful skill and a strong back, or something else of value if it comes down to it. As far as people asking to come to your home, they just were not raised right ;) Around here if a car drives by that we don't recognize it's a big deal. Thanks for the inspiration!

You are so right...again. I was glad when you mentioned not showing your pantry on social media. I hadn't ever shown my whole pantry to anyone, just showing pictures of the things I was canning because I was excited because I had recently learned how - but I've stopped doing that as well. I don't have a homestead, but I do have a garden and the garden area gets bigger every year and learning new things all the time. Family is sacred. I'm glad you share what you do and definitely understand not having people just walking around your home. I don't have that either. You mentioned the wild violet jelly...my friend that has taught me so much has just recently made some. I would have never thought to do that. I've been picking some and saving some for her. She said it had kind of a berry taste that I would never have thought of. Anxious to see what that is like if you are adding that to your video with your strawberries jam one. So thankful that you do speak your mind - you many times say what many of us are thinking. This world has gone crazy for sure! So glad Butter has some friends. They are adorable.

Patera, I agree 💯%! Your home and your property need to be a safe place. We have the same philosophy here as well. But ya' know if you showed up on my front porch I would so invite you in for tea and dessert. Then I would take you around and show you where your handprints were on my garden, in my chicken coops (that includes my incubator and brooder😉) and even show you my Patera cough syrup😊 You have been such an encouragement to me to do the things my grannies did. I am one generation off the farm and I wish that i could sit with them and take a billion notes. You are so wise to make these videos for your descendants. So yep, just you can show up at my door, but that is because you are already all around my property. Thank you Patera 🌷

You are 💯 correct! When times are rough and people are starving people will do anything. History should prove that to anyone that has a mind to study it. Look what happened on the Oregon trail. We are living in desperate times and it’s just begun. Sometimes when I see preppers showing off their food storage I ask myself why? Why do we need to see what you have put up for hard times, I seriously wonder if it is to brag. (Don’t mean that to be mean) but just why? I personally respect other people’s property and expect mine to be done the same way.

You are absolutely right. I’m a very private person too and understand where you come from. With what is going on in the world these days, the less people know about you, the safer you will be. My mother and grandmother were the same. Times are getting tough and some people will start wanting to take advantage of you and what you have. They less they know about you the better off you are. Strong believer of this. Have a great day.

You are so right to declare this boundary. I would even take it further and leave KZbin. There are other platform options that may be more respectful to a person's rights and privacy. This platform openly censors so many folks that the type of people that will be left are not the ones that will respect freedom, personal property, and privacy. Thank you for looking out for us. ❤

Absolutely! It’s your private life and you are teaching a skill. Doesn’t mean people come over, if they need to learn by tactile, then they need to learn by experience, that’s what it’s for, not your home. I feel the same way, utube is a venue of teaching people a skill. That’s why you use a PO Box not a personal address. But I live in Cut n Shoot, (for real) and usually don’t have those kind of problems, lol. And yes, you need to protect your biosphere of your farm. People don’t understand that they unknowingly can bring in a disease on their shoes that could wipe out your flock. It’s a hard understanding, but true. And also a safety issue. Now when those folks get taxed for their treasures and are not allowed to purchase things because the government thinks you have enough, they will wish they had the same principle.

Girl, I'm with you 💯%! Whoever told you you have to open your pantry to other people, he is WRONG! And if he comes onto this channel, I hope he sees what I have to say. For safety reasons, obviously, it is smart to stay private. But even in addition to that... what about people who are introverted and would get stressed out from having people coming over for tours and homesteading classes?! I'm an introvert, and there is no way you would EVER see me inviting people I don't know or barely know over my house. It's just not happening. And I don't feel one bit bad about it, I am who I am. I'm not unfriendly, just not a social butterfly either. You keep doing what you do, you're helping plenty of people without letting them into your home. God bless you!

We have a locked gate. Several KZbinrs have had people show up unannounced. Nope. We have met someone who was driving through our area at a restaurant for dinner. It was a lot of fun, and we made a good personal connection. We are invited to stop by their place if we are ever in their area. We would be comfortable doing that. But we believe that they are the exception. We like our privacy. Very few people ever get invited to our place. I am definitely with you on acting out on someone else’s channel. Nope. I just walk away. I have better things to do. Have an awesome, safe, weekend!

May God Bless Ya for wanting to care enough to warn people and still teach and share. You're right the world isnt what it use to be. Life should be taken seriously and soberly and somebody grinning and guffawing all the time is to stupid to know they sometimes need to worry a little bit. So, well, when she put it like that I saw what she was saying and I decided I liked the way she saw things. Besides, extremely happy all the time and smiling all the time people...get on my dang nerves, ha!

Hello Patara. Never apologize for protecting yourself, your family or your home. We are now grandparents... the protecting of the little ones never ends. Keeping in touch with our grown kids is a must. Trusting that my husband and I agree with who we welcome to our home. Life is worth living when you surround yourself with love. Love of family & friends. Be well.

Lots of people have no happiness in life so they live there's threw other people's lives threw utube or what nots. They just can't enjoy watching and learning from these outlets. There are a lot of unstable people be careful and watch yourselves. Keep up the great videos I have enjoyed them and learnt alot.

My mom ended up alone on a huge farm at 66yrs old. Every time she went into town or visited her children for a day or 2 she'd come back to find another piece of machinery stolen. Some people will take advantage of any situation even if you 'know' them. The world is even crazier now. So I applaud your stand on privacy. It's yours to do with as you please, not how anyone else thinks you should.

That’s crazy that people would even think that was an option! Why in the world would you want to go to someone’s homestead you don’t know? Thank you for all the helpful things you tech! I’ve only been following you for a couple of months-I’ve learned so much! I’ve even started making my own biscuits🤗

I am so happy to hear you talk about keeping yourself private. It disturbs me greatly to see all these pantry tours ..... But don't they ever think about who's going to show up to their house to clean them out when shtf? Man, keep yourself to yourself!

I totally agree with you. I am a very trusting person to a fault. I opened the door to a stranger last week. Nothing bad happened but it sure could have. Later I became weak in the knees after thinking about it. I will never do that again. Lesson learned. Things have drastically changed in this country in just the last few months. We have to be careful and protective of our home and family. I absolutely agree that you don't need to open your home and property to other people. Never here again. Only by appointment from here on out..Thank you Patara for your channel and all you do to teach us..

I agree with all you are saying, this world is not the place it once was. We have to be alert and somewhat selfish these days. Take care of ourselves first . There is reason to be careful in the present day, it’s sad to say. We appreciate all you do and I learn a lot watching you. Being in the public eye has drawbacks and people think they own a part I like that you stand up and draw your lines. Keep it up

Even you having yt channel or other sites you have to have eyes in the back of you head. There are people that have no problem causing issues. I have heard of several Facebook channels that have been hacked and funds and accounts were emptied. That's like letting a stranger in your front door. I don't blame you for being cautious. We love your channel because of your personality and you do show things that helps some of us with a few little farm animals enjoy learning. Lol.

I totally agree with you, when I think about the things in our world, it makes me nervous. Have to be careful who you allow where.
