A few years ago I was working at an Advertising Agency in Las Vegas and one of our clients was AFAN - Aid for AIDS of Nevada. We had asked if clients would be willing to come in for a photo shoot. It was a diverse gathering and I appreciated everyone coming. There was a gentleman who was so sick and consumed with the final stages of AIDS that he spent most of the time throwing up in the bathroom. He was there and fighting for the cause. I don't know his name but I remember his strength.

This is one of the most touching and beautiful songs I have ever heard. I barely remember the AIDS era of the 80's, but my heart really heavy when I think of the whole thing. Such ignorance and neglect, so much could have been done..such a shameful part on the human race.

That's a simplistic understanding of the virus and how the epidemic developed. It took thousands of years for the virus to jump from primates to humans and turn into an epidemic. You can thank Nixon and the War On Cancer for the research dollars that went into studying the immune system and infectious diseases. If it wasn't for this funding the epidemic could have been far greater.

I started crying in the middle of class. I wanted to use Francis' speech as a monologue for acting class, but it wasn't long enough. "How many dead hemophiliacs do you need? How many people have to die to make it cost effecient for you people to do something about it? A hundred? A thousand? Give us a number so we won't annoy you again until the amount of money you begin spending on lawsuits make it more profitable for you to save people than to kill them!" I absolutely love this tribute, along with another extremely beautiful song by Elton John. Let’s also add to the list of celebrities who died of AIDS: Nascar’s Tim Richmond and Rapper Eazy-e.

I saw this movie in my history class my senior year of high school. It was also around this time a very close friend of my mother's passed away to complications from AIDS. When this scene came on as we were watching it in class, I had to leave the room and to this day I cannot watch it it without crying.

Here in Long Beach Ca., there were many businesses that were closed, because the owners and/or many of the staff had died from AIDS. My cousin died from it, and it wasn't known until some years alter. I've heard from someone in the know, that Freddy Mercury wrote the lyrics, and it was in reference to his dad. He had no intension of making a song out of it, but someone close to Elton knew of it, found it and handed it over to Elton, with the agreement, that Freddy not be known as the writer, as he had no intention of making it public.

Aids may have physically poisoned these ppl But I really think ignorance, bigotry avoidance and pettiness from the powers that be killed them

@CoolJoe4810 actually it started back in the 50's. the first people who got sick with strange diseases in the congo started appearing around1959 or so. the first person in the us who died of aids, was a teenage boy in st.louis. he died in 1969, i think. the first doc that died from aids was a danish missionary worker, who died in 1975 or 6. she probably acquired it via a needle stick. there was a lot of wilfull ignorance, back in the 1980's regarding this, and money played a part.

I watched this in my 9th grade Health class and this song has been stuck by me ever since October 2014. When it showed Freddy Mercury, the entire classroom was somber and some students were emotional after the ending.

I don't know why they didn't put the names to this. I've seen this film several times and remember those years. So terribly sad but frustrating that people had the prejudice.
