Andamooka is an Aussie town you may not have heard of, but it may be somewhere you want to move to because, as we found out, it's the cheapest place in Australia to buy your own home.

Nope, that’s an serious underestimate of the actual temps out there- I used to live outside Coobers in 1986 at a place called Mirikata that has since been destroyed and I can tell you that back then I saw the temps hit 49 outside. The contrast between day and night temps were wild too depending on the season. I love the outback but these days wouldn’t think of it unless the house is at least partially underground, my solar system is massive enough to drive seriously good aircon and I’ve got my own water stored (because Roxby is the reason so many of the old reliable bores and wells are long dead, they’ve had free reign on the Great Artesian basin for over 40 years and are screwing the subterranean water systems for the entire continent). I would not want to be that vulnerable ever again- any disruption out there and there’s no back up. I won’t live anywhere without water and fertile soil anymore, I learned that in the desert.

This is actually a great idea when you think about it. Dying towns will be revitalised with cheaping housing to draw crowds and hopefully with it different professions that generate a community. Not to mention this will pull buyer's away from the cities and spread economy more around Australia which is something we need. This might just turn the tide on overcrowded expensive housing and jump start the economy and infrastructure boost Australia is sorely missing. Should make a series of little towns all around Australia telling a similar story, it will definitely make a difference 👍

Sure sound good but you better be useful in a town like that, if you have no skills at all then you don't actually bring anything to the community & just end up being a leech, good thing is these people don't last long in small towns like this & end up returning back to the cities for the free handouts.

It’s actually very close a big mining town. Seriously, a big supermarket is just a 23 min drive away so need to grow your own food. They have water there too. I’ve been to Andamooka because I lived in the mining town for a year. It was stress free because - no heavy traffic, no traffic lights and a great mail service so you can order anything online and have it delivered…and many other reasons. Sure Andamooka is remote but because it’s right near a well serviced mining town it makes it easy for remote living.

Food ..fuel..is no different than the city ..Roxby Downs is 30 minutes down the main road for shopping with a Woolworths supermarket and a BP servo .. Andamooka has its own hospital staffed by the RFDS with dentist and physio +others flying in every month..if they can't fix you up they take you to Roxby or fly you out to Adelaide.. Water is pumped in to the caravan park and you have to engage a water truck to fill up your water tank at home ..we have a power station in town..I have better phone signal here than I had in Adelaide..

The only medical service is the RFDS Health Clinic staffed by 2 nurses. Closest hospital is at Roxby Downs with only basic medical services. The video didn't mention how expensive it is to live in Andamooka, electricity, food, water which people need to research before making life changing decisions of moving there. It is a real culture shock moving to isolated rural remote towns with very little in the way of facilities.

It’s not that hard to find that information if you look, like most country towns fuel and food prices are higher, medical services are nurse run and tele-health. The show said that most people are off grid which means you supply your own water/power and you decide your restrictions according to your catchment ability (water tanks are a few grand each). They probably have composting toilets (possibly with a grey water system). They most likely have no internet and they love it, I have lived in an off-grid situation in another state and I enjoyed it but its not for everyone.

@@JeremyMeador I was considering changing my investment strategy and planning to sell certain positions. As my retirement is coming soon,I became increasingly stressed. I booked a call session with her too.
