G’day everyone, I hope you’re all well! In this video we’ll be treating some Andamooka matrix opal, one lot is a parcel I have cut and treated for Angel, the rest is the other half of the matrix opal I mined a couple of trips ago. I hope you enjoy, thanks for your time. 🤪👍

I really like this one! Nice treatment job (nice matrix!) I like your red strainer bowl. I have been putting the stones in a Pyrex beaker with holes that I drilled in the bottom, but your setup is clearly better -- easier, too! I am going to find something like yours! (It will probably be hit-or-miss, trying to match the size of the strainer and the crock pot bowl, but I will do it .. I hope!) d

Hi Phil Beautiful colour in that material mate . I love treating opal and retreating some Winton opal atm. I think treated opals are some of the most loved stones as so much go's into producing one. The rewards are gorgeous stones. It's the anticipation of seeing what is possible and a transformation like a stone butterfly emerging to see it for the first time. It's special and treated stones are a wonder of nature and ingenuity . Great work mate. .

@donquarnstrom2949 Hi Don. Greetings and salutations. So do I, hope Don Pulitzer gets a few ripper bits. (Have to keep Sheila happy). It's a weird roundabout with rocks. Aussie opal as American arrow heads. American arrow head tools for an Aussie opal worker. It's great!!!. How did your zucchini bread go? ( my guess, is quickly!). I'll gatecrash for lunch one day!!!! LOL

Oh, forgot. A friend came back with a coffee tin of potch from Yowah. She was noodling on heaps of chucked out junk. I specifically asked for potch to practice on. She came across some discarded sliced bit that she thought were interesting. A couple of bits that I will find interesting in it, but all except 2 chunks of crud, is perfect to get the feel for the material. Lucky me.

I've got a bit of matrix I'm dying to play with. I buy it every time I can afford it. Always been fascinated by it. Those blue green slabs are going to be stunning when finished. Love your "shop jacket" lol I'm pretty sure mines worse off...no use in ruining a good one in the shop I figure. Thanks for sharing Phil.

Hello Mate. How are you doing? Just saw your posting on the new video. For some reason, I prefer watching YOUR videos over Justin/black Opal. Don't get me wrong, he is alright, just not my cup of tea, Mate. Anway's on with the video. OH, how WE LOVE MATRIX!!! YOU DO KNOW HOW I LOVE MATRIX.

So, I am just trying to treat a few little bits of Andamooka matrix and guess what? I left it in the slow cooker for two days on high and guess what happened to the sugar water? It was on the verge of turning into Toffee!

Yeah, I left mine over night by accident once, the stones were set in a brittle, porous, black carbon by the time I found them. 🤦‍♂️

@theopalmills

G’day, with the matrix, sometimes there’s some educated guesswork, for example; knowing the position it was in when formed can give you an idea of which way to face the stones due to the way opal forms horizontal bars, even vertical seams have horizontal bars when held up the way it sat in the ground. 🤪👍

If you treat matrix and it doesn’t take the treatment is it still classified as treated after you cut and set it ?
@theopalmills
@theopalmills Жыл бұрын
Good question, if it doesn’t take a treatment at all, then it is still untreated, but if any of it is affected by the treatment, then it has taken a “partial treatment”. 🤪👍

Hi, the treatment should last, with care, it won’t stain or discolour skin or clothing, although there are ways the matrix can fade, like bleach. 🤪👍
