I always tear up from this song I think that Lilys voice is incredible and the instruments are amazing. She reminds me of a friend who sadly is no longer with me she was amazing and this was her favourite song I remember times I would look up lyrics and she would sing and I would do back up now I no longer have someone to back up when this is playing I miss her everyday and this song reminds me of all the good times we had together.

You've got yourself a pretty good vibrato, Hannah. I like it. Whether it be in pop, jazz or opera, most people have slow vibratos at 6 pitch-variations per second, and to me that's too slow and in fact unhealthy. Any vibrato lower than 6.25 pitch variations per second is consider an unhealthy vibrato, yet too many singers just take that kind of vibrato for granted (think the sugar / deep-fried food epedemic, same thing with vibrato even in opera for instance). Yes, it's fast, but I can still count them (like you can count 32nd notes). Your vibrato is about 7.5 or so on average, and even though it's not opera, I still like it. It's subtle, but it's there. Pretty smooth voice. To a certain extent reminds me of the Irish Celtic singer called Cara Dillon. Heard of her before? But take note that I'm a bagpiper, not a singer at all. In bagpiping, there's no such thing as air-or vocal-vibrato, but there is finger vibrato. The faster finger-vibrato a piper has, the more dexterous they are. So this translates to the faster vocal vibrato a girl has, never mind the specific genre, the more beautiful her voice is. This is why I also appreciate singers with some sort of faster vibrato in their voices, including yours. But fast vibrato is a good thing, even if it's just subtle. One man known for fast finger vibrato is the late Martyn Bennet. His favorite instrument is the Scottish Smallpipes - there is a type of bagpipe known as Smallpipes, most commonly in the key of A, rather than the B-flat of the Highland pipes. Take a listen to his fast finger-vibrato here, this one is nearly 8 or so. Just as the opera singers C. Bartoli and J. DiDonato have. But you probably dislike opera anyway, so I will not go there. And his "chanter" seems to be in your comfortable vocal range. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iZevYo2Ao8uih6c Hannah, your vibrato rocks! Keep your fast vibrato, don't slow it down! Even on your low notes, it's still amazing. You are actually quite lucky to have the characteristic vibrato you have. Just so you know there is someone listening to you... PS. If anyone thinks her vibrato is too fast, you're wrong. It's good, and in fact a healthy vibrato is a fast one. Whoever prefers slow vibrato really has to short-change their opinions real quick!

Michael Kazmierski Dunn the singer in the video is Lily James from the new Mamma Mia film
@michaelkazmierskidunn71896 жыл бұрын
Oh great, how was I supposed to know? Thing is, I'm blind myself... I wouldn't have known if it didn't say so in the description! I can be a real Dudelsack sometimes! (Austrian for "bagpipes" - next time you feel like saying 'idiot', try Dudelsack instead, sounds like a perfect derogatory word). But she does have a fast (read 'healthy') vibrato, which is often just overlooked even in opera for instance. (yes, Diana Damrau does not have a healthy vibrato!).
@AlexxOH6 жыл бұрын
Michael Kazmierski Dunn It’s cool, that doesn’t make you an idiot haha. I was just letting you know who the singer is since you enjoyed it so much, she has a really beautiful voice, I’ve had the soundtrack on repeat over the past few days! 😊
@michaelkazmierskidunn71896 жыл бұрын
Well, given that you said you love putting these Mama Mia tracks on repeat, given their amazing voices... so why not give fast healthy vibrato a little taste? Especially if you've only heard the unfortunately ubiquitous yet improperly slow and unhealthy vibrato and decide that opera for instance isn't your thing - well, listen to these healthy and fast vibratos, and you might start to love them. That's exactly what happened with me when I heard Laura Bretan's 13-year-old operatic voice, so it might happen to you too. I think the reason why a countless number of singers have disconcertingly slow vibrato is because they didn't bother to develop a trill, or more so, because their teachers who they listened to, simply didn't have a fast vibrato - and their slow vibratos unconsciously told them that a slow vibrato is the way to go. But, this upsets me, what with the fact that I'm not actually a singer myself, only a piper - but I hate slow vibratos. This is why I started a collection of females with exclusively fast (healthy) vibratos in the first place, as living proof there are lots of girls or women who have, what I consider, great vibratos - and about 30 of these are opera singers! So, here is how way too many opera singers sound with regard to their vibrato. In the video a lot of people don't like it either, but there are some singers who wrongly think this is how it's supposed to sound. If anybody likes this vibrato, you are CRAZY! How in the world are we going to get people to stop liking this siren-vibrato? In short: This is BAD vibrato. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aaXOf31rebepmbM Why do people think this is how it's supposed to sound? They say it's beautiful - it is NOT! Some people say fast vibrato is a sin - no, those people are dead wrong! So again, how are we going to convince all the singers with slow vibrato that they are definitely not doing it right? Yes, I think Diana Damrau is surely one of these. By contrast, here are some singers, of many different genres, with what I consider correctly fast, and naturally fast vibratos. To me, their vibratos are billions of times better than, actually, the majority of singers. Maybe because these slow-vibrato singers overlook vibrato speed, but again, how are they going to get convinced that the following videos are of singers with proper vibratos? Each singer is given before their videos. Cecilia Bartoli - professional coloratura soprano: kzbin.info/www/bejne/f5XOZqabos-WmdE kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y3nPnGt7eaZjaK8 kzbin.info/www/bejne/o6rJm2Waq6aoiLc Joyce DiDonato - the American version of Bartoli more or less - professional opera soprano: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jKLOiqJqhbiWoZI kzbin.info/www/bejne/rpXQmqNpmrOdl6s kzbin.info/www/bejne/ipqraJqbet6hjbs kzbin.info/www/bejne/i4PIqpmnn5aVfdk kzbin.info/www/bejne/a3LJpWmXe7WZbNU kzbin.info/www/bejne/g5-ulYawebaAlZo Denise Lee - a blind opera singer with one of the best angelic voices ever - not the deepest vibrato, but also a volume-vibrato giving a real angelic dimention to her voice - perhaps because she is blind is why she has the best vibrato I've heard: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nZ7UnpuvntSHo6M kzbin.info/www/bejne/aKLQi4GfgMd4ec0 kzbin.info/www/bejne/pqesiZyPi7ZgZq8 kzbin.info/www/bejne/f2TPc5hmmrJmabc kzbin.info/www/bejne/rHTUmqmshaiLjMk Abby Fischer - a very similar voice to Bartoli or DiDonato - opera: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pICof4yArdB9nLs kzbin.info/www/bejne/rJOWgnWApdCZarM kzbin.info/www/bejne/bZ7HmZl3jdh6fck kzbin.info/www/bejne/f5eWhKeGpsmspJI kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z3jEdIibmtaDb7M kzbin.info/www/bejne/jJDOXpiPfaympqc Michele Esposito - of 1984 Amadeus movie fame: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y32alptnlrKIaJo Nikki Yanofsky - young jazz scat singer: kzbin.info/www/bejne/goawiJyca655jc0 Abby Riccards - jazz: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jIjWdXiqYth2na8 kzbin.info/www/bejne/jofbfKdjq86Xaqs kzbin.info/www/bejne/mH3bgYyGoa-ojLc kzbin.info/www/bejne/onO9Y4KBe7h9h7M kzbin.info/www/bejne/rJLKe4VqpqpmeNk kzbin.info/www/bejne/o5K8q3iVd7mapLM Regina Zabos - jazz: kzbin.info/www/bejne/omHVYWB6nKxnfKM Sarah Brightman, 1988 (her vibrato has been slower since then): kzbin.info/www/bejne/goTSoJuBnMZ1arM kzbin.info/www/bejne/l5TLXneCrcirr7s kzbin.info/www/bejne/pWOpo2N9mdWcgqs kzbin.info/www/bejne/e4S4c6V_nN-SmpI kzbin.info/www/bejne/manHcqKClK-GidU kzbin.info/www/bejne/aKaplKOYhph-bJY kzbin.info/www/bejne/rorPiaWFiJllkNU Laura Bretan - my favorite young opera singer until recently when her vibrato too slowed down to a serious crawl - from Romania: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gIOoYYKAd7Gdf7M kzbin.info/www/bejne/eKGQloOnmrJ5abM kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZpmVm4iPhNuKrqc kzbin.info/www/bejne/qJm9iXiNarWboKs Jennifer Sgroe - opera: kzbin.info/www/bejne/inawg62Dq7Krl5I Darina Kirilko (from Ukraine) - jazz: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mJ-vi3-XfpKNe5I Shana Doyle - opera: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rZLSg5xtidBnpa8 kzbin.info/www/bejne/bZe6cpRsntVqgbc Abby Becker - good vibrato yet totally expressionless - opera: kzbin.info/www/bejne/d4jHmqKKZqimfNE kzbin.info/www/bejne/hn-2pIiXj6mUpsk kzbin.info/www/bejne/bYvFf4KHpqaYbcU Melissa Harrison - Musical Theater: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iIXFoZahfMt7rq8 kzbin.info/www/bejne/jaStaZaue51kfpY Donna Coquila - jazz: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bmSwpJWBpdx9pq8 Becca Chii (from Korea) - Musical Theater: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y5XbqWavbbF9ask Hayley Marie Harder - Musical Theater, jazz and opera: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aZDHeIh_e9eAhLc kzbin.info/www/bejne/h6nFdp2gesipZsU kzbin.info/www/bejne/laeQh5eMoM2Sh6c Kate Reynolds - opera: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z6WxZqx6bNqBgdE Hannah Lee - opera kzbin.info/www/bejne/aZrHq3Z9npmUqs0 Abby Linig - opera: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mWfbm3Z_id6Sfdk kzbin.info/www/bejne/i56XoYejo9h0erM Emily Rice - Theater: kzbin.info/www/bejne/imeVdI2hebmGaMU Merissa Beddows - 12 years old, very expressive, completely self-taught opera singer (totally un-trained, only having listened to recordings): kzbin.info/www/bejne/hJ3Go3WpnsR0bNk Julia Perry - musical theater, jazz: kzbin.info/www/bejne/i5zFc2WiYqyfapI kzbin.info/www/bejne/jYXZnKxqeZeErcU kzbin.info/www/bejne/oJ2komOqjtmHm8k Bri Ray - musical theater: kzbin.info/www/bejne/apTbqIp_gJmYZ8U kzbin.info/www/bejne/jGPZhWSlhpd_fKc Nicola Klein - musical theater, opera: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gHatmoWgl72NedE kzbin.info/www/bejne/Znbcc3iVgpeGl6c kzbin.info/www/bejne/o2KQk4yLZq1oask kzbin.info/www/bejne/qoSWZJqpaJaHpsk Finally - my recording of opera singer Cecelia Brady (recommended to read the description): kzbin.info/www/bejne/hnu2naJvisqFp6s So who's your favorite? Again, this is trying to get people used to what a healthy vibrato sounds like. Whoever says it is too fast, well, they just haven't grown up listening to a healthy singing voice. Plus, if they all went blind (think myself or Denise Lee), they'd understand it right away. But, Bartoli and DiDonato do have it covered. So why don't the majority of singers do that, or simply listen to people like Bartoli, replicate her vibrato / dexterity and just be done with it? Think Adele and Julie Andrews, they had slow vibrato and needed to also have vocal surgery.
