#andbytheway three cross-shaped badges in bronze, silver and gold are on display in our exhibition! The so-called "Cross of Honour of the German Mother" was awarded to women with many children during the National Socialism. Our guide Michael tells you in this video how he came into contact with such a mother cross for the first time and how he uses it in his guided tours to discuss the role of women in National Socialism.
Michael is a member of the German Federal Armed Forces. Due to his stationing in the Berchtesgadener Land he came to the Dokumentation Obersalzberg, where he has been working as a guide since 2019.

Das Mutterkreuz wurde meist von der lokalen NSDAP-Ortsgruppe beantragt. Dabei wurden Familien oder Mütter, die den Augen der Nazis als "asozial" oder "unwürdig" galten bereits aussortiert. Zudem mussten die Familien einen sogenannten "Ariernachweis" vorlegen, damit sie dass Kreuz bekamen.
