I am so glad you included vermouth and soda at the end of it. I'm more of a vermouth on the rocks with an olive garnish myself(also as the drink it in spain), but it's the same point. I think that one of the biggest tragedies in mixology is that people think vermoth is just for mixing. It is a beautiful drink that tastes like an herbaceous cola. Much love.

When my sister and her husband visited me here in the US and ventured out on their own, she ordered a martini and was surprised "how strong it was", when she expected straight vermouth, rosso martini being a popular brand in Germany. Laughed about that one for a while.

This is my favorite way to use vermouth. Soooo good
@CraigFalls12 жыл бұрын
In San Sebastian I noticed a lot of times they would add a little dash of gin. The vermouths themselves (e.g. Yzaguirre) were a little lighter and smoother than, say, martini rosso. Usually garnished with a slice of orange or lemon or an olive or all three. At a fancier place they would mist it with something. I asked what the mist was and one place said something like 3 parts vermouth, 2 parts gin, 1 part orange bitters. Another place was adding a dash from a premixed bottle of campari/gin/angostura. Regardless of the exact details, they just call this concoction "vermut" or "vermut preparado", not really thinking of it as a cocktail. It's similar to ordering a Coke and getting it on ice with a lemon wedge -- it's still just a Coke. Here is another typical description, unfortunately in Spanish: www.conpan.es/content/view/391/36-vermut-preparado
@aitoriri17 ай бұрын
@@CraigFalls1 I work in a bar in Bilbao and is very tipical for each bar to have their own way of preparing the vermut. As you said it can have gin, campari and angostura but some places will add a bit of orange juice and play with the garnishes to, like a orange slice or an olive or both.

One of my favorite ways to use up vermouth is another two-birds-one-stone recipe. The Diplomat calls for two ounces of dry vermouth, one ounce of sweet vermouth, a couple dashes of orange bitters, and a teaspoon of maraschino liqueur to be built on the rocks and served with a lemon twist.

A fave of mine as well. I got one a couple weeks ago that was built decently, but their ice instantly melted (needed a huge rock).

The La Louisiane is essentially a deeper more robust version of the Boulevardier but sub out the Campari with Benedictine and add bitters and absinthe.
@russell79265 ай бұрын
@@justinbeynon7980 Boulevardier is better with Bourbon though, because the Campari and putting Campari + Rye together would make for a very dry cocktail. Benedictine is much sweet so goes well with the Rye .

I really appreciate these videos of cocktails made with [some ingredient]. It makes it so much easier for us amateurs to grab that one ingredient and try it in a variety of ways with stuff we probably already have. I had never thought about simply mixing sweet vermouth and soda water. I saw this video, thought to myself "Oh, that sounds interesting!", immediately ran down stairs and made one, then ran back up just to leave this comment. **sip** This is seriously good! It's a has a lot of what I like about my favorite afternoon sipper (Fernet con Coca), but is MUCH more mild. It's certainly an instant top 5 for me.

Guilty of being in the Manhattan rut. Played with it a lot (adding a bit of dry vermouth or a couple kinds of bitters). Then I learned about the Black Manhattan (maybe on this channel) and I never looked back. Then I got all the makings for a proper Singapore Sling and ended up with a bottle of Cherry Heering. Stumbled on something called a "Cherry Old Fashioned" which is essentially a Manhattan with the Heering replacing the Vermouth. So... I definitely need some other uses for the Sweet Vermouth. Some of these sound amazing and I will try them. And as another commenter pointed out,, on the rocks with a twist is a great aperitif. Ubiquitous in South America--often sipped sitting outdoors under a Cinzano umbrella. Thanks for these among many great recipes on this channel.

great video, as always, Anders. Personally, I really enjoy when you touch on the rationale for why you’re picking a certain brand/spirit, like you did with the rum in this one. Thanks!
