These are both great drinks. The Jasper Rum Punch is amazing for its economy; an ounce and a half of cheap Uncle Wrays, sugar, lime, and Ango. The taste is great! I like it a lot more then some much more complicated tiki drinks with expensive and difficult to source bottles. I cant wait to make one with Rum Fire.

I haven't tried this myself but I bet it'd be good with a real peaty scotch. If Jaspers Mix can domesticate Uncle Wrays I bet it'd be great with a similarly wild Laphroaig or Ardbeg! I'm going to make a Japsers Mix/Laphroaig old fashioned when I get home.

6:00 important note! Sugar and water (or lime juice in this case) have different densities, meaning that, if you measure by weight, *the ratio will change.* I saw one source claim that granulated sugar is about 85% as dense as water, meaning 3/4c sugar will weigh closer to 7oz than 6oz. However, since sugar is essentially sand in terms of physics, that density will vary based on how densely it's packed and what type of sugar it is.

Great recipe! Very simple and very tasty! I had a bottle of the overproof and it has very few uses. (tho in a ultimate mai tai, 1/2 oz of this jamaican rum is excellent!) I used the bottled nutmeg in my batch but I will definitely try grating my own next time. The bottled nutmeg doesn't strain out so you end up with a little tornado of of nutmeg in your glass because it is so fine.

Funny you mention the homemade grenadine. I did not find myself using it in too many drinks, so I decided to create my own, what I call the Jaz(z) sour. 2 oz. gin, 1/2 oz grenadine, 1/2 oz lime juice, and 3 dashes Rose Water. Shaken and served up. Floral yet crisp. Best of all it uses two items on my bar that do not get enough use.

Thanks for the great recipe..again. Jasper's Mix looks like something you could easily do on a single drink basis. I'm guessing something like 1 oz lime juice, 1 1/2 tbsp sugar, 2 ml Angostura (4 - 5 dashes?) a bit of ground nutmeg. Did you check the final volume you came up with? It would be easy to come up with the "single drink" ratios if you have the end volume for a full batch.

Wow, great to see Jasper's Mix trendy again. Another popular KZbinr just posted a similar video two weeks ago 😉 ... The credit for Jasper's recipe becoming public should go to the late great rum collector, Stephen Remsberg. He used to tell the story of drinking at Jasper's bar in the '70s and Jasper writing it down for him. Stephen later shared it with both Beachbum Berry and Ted Haigh, who was actually the first to publish it (along with the punch recipes) in Vintage Spirits and Forgotten cocktails back in 2009. Stephen first shared it publicly at Tales of the Cocktail in 2008, which is timely. That was roughly 16 years ago this week. I think I'll go toast both Stephen and Jasper with potent punch.

This is my Caesar salad drink... Hear me out. I love a good Caesar Salad. Something you can get at any restaurant, no one makes them the same way, but it still hits the spot. It blew my mind when learned from a Golf travel show (adventures in golf) that the Caesar salad came from a restaurant named Caesar's in Tijana Mexico. (always thought it was Italian) Now, I can't eat a Caesar salad without being that Dad who tells the same story everytime something happens. I can't, not think of the fact that it's from Mexico. I sit down at the restaurant, order the salad, then say "Fun Fact, Caesar salads are actually from Mexico" to anyone who would listen. And most people say, "wow, I thought it was from Italy". What does this have to do with a Rum Punch? I love rum punch. Jasper's rum punch. And like the salad, I can't not think about Jasper, Montego Bay Jamaica, the story, and not to mention that most people put fruit punch in a rum punch when it doesn't have it in the first place. And I only know about Jasper's Rum Punch because I went to Jamaica on vacation and learned this from a bartender in Montego Bay! All this to say, I've always appreciated your History section in your videos and this one hit a special place in my heart. Cheers!
