this disconnection with food is actually called arfid (avoidant restrictive food intake disorder). there’s a lack of interest towards food and what others consider “picky eating”. as someone who struggles with arfid, it is so reassuring to hear a public figure be open about their relationship with food.

Me too. Plus poverty. My folks sometimes just explained it that once a month is “‘government cheese day” and hopefully a paycheck day (we lived in very remote and economically absent areas a lot), otherwise beans and rice and the garden or what we could gather in the hills or fish for was good. Or, well “we fast on weekends “, or whenever. My husband and his brother couldn’t fathom why i got wrecked emotionally when just as the pandemic quarantine was beginning, they took half our pantry and aimed to throw it out because some of it (even when perfectly fine and stable) was approaching the best by date! One doesn’t have to wonder far why i developed a lifelong anxiety based eating disorder. Still, i find it cruel to be so wealthy and deny your children the stability of food.

Well I never thought that this could be the case... I am always portrait as the lousiest eater of the family... Honestly I don't like eating at all... One year I had chronic pain plus was depressed and anxious because of the pain and thinking I may never get better. It was actually difficult for me to eat that year and I lost 10 lbs. And usually, all I think about is food and what I'm going to have for my next meal (mostly plant based; eating animals is yuck!)

I'm exactly the same..I couldn't care less about food. I dont understand the whole worlds obsession with food. If I could just take a pill in the morning and be done with it, it would be a relief. I honestly think it's about the way you grow up. My parents never ever bribed me with food. They never said if you're good, or of you just do this, or if you're just quiet you'll get mcdonalds or lollies or chocolate. Never. Ever. There were never any treats in the fridge or pantry, just normal food. If you raise a child by telling them food is a reward, you have set up the child for life with an issue.

What a horrid, tragic, sad existence...... Not to mention that it would be zero fun to be around. You are not missing out on food, you ae missing out on LIFE...
@jomoney4653 жыл бұрын
@@Stillnapie I disagree. You do not have to have food to have life. This is just silly. Yes, you can enjoy food with your friends and family, but your life experiences do not have to be centered around food. And there is plenty of fun to be had in doing things that do not involve a meal.

I totally have this same concept regarding food. Some folks live to eat. I eat to live. And my theory titled "if you didn't have to eat", goes like this: If you didn't have to eat..... you would not have to spend your money on the food and so grocery stores would not exist; all appliances in your kitchen are not needed so the house would not even have a kitchen in it; and then there's the toilet that you wouldn't need. All the planning, the shopping, the dragging the bags home and requiring a place to store the food, preparation of food, time spent eating the food, energy and time spent cleaning up the mess, space required to store all the dishes needed to do all these things. If you didn't have to eat..... what a simple and glorious world this would be ! Anderson, let me know what you think of this magical world, where food is not required.
@BbGun-lw5vi3 жыл бұрын
Honestly, that’s sad. Food is one of the things in all cultures that unites us. It’s more than a simple pleasure. It’s a bonding experience.
@jomoney4653 жыл бұрын
@@BbGun-lw5vi I understand why this sounds sad to some. But when I was growing up, my mother was so strict with food and for her, it was a chore to prepare food to feed us kids, just to put something in our bellies to fill it up for that moment, and it didn't matter if you liked the food or the way it was prepared, you had to eat it because that's all there was. So at an early age, I developed a love/hate relationship to food. In adulthood, i show great respect to food and I do not waste food. And I keep lots of food in my house and cubbards (non perishables) so that I will never be without food, ever again. I will never go hungry. But I had to learn how to not place an emphasis on food, the quality or the quantity, and I had to learn that food was simply fuel for your body to operate properly. So I eat enough food to supply my body with fuel, and try to eat only healthy food. I wish I had your attitude about food, as a bonding experience. It was not that for me, it was just another thing to check off the daily list of things to do. Still is. Maybe sad, but true for me.

The rich, especially old money families, do not actually EAT. Its considered low class. The poor eat because they need the calories to do WORK. Since most of the rich who DO WORK are mainly just sitting down in a big beautiful office setting, they don't need the calories. But the rich DO drink. Only the good stuff. Dom Perignon. Yeah, I don’t care much about food. Unless it’s chocolate.

Bulletproof coffee + Intermittent fasting did it for me. I lost my appetite 100% to the point I have to use cbd/thc to stimulate my appetite on the days I choose to eat. Its sad, I no longer feel pleasure from eating and it’s physically painful when I try to do so without “help”. I can drink green juices, at least 🤪

Yep. I've done two 40 day fasts and several smaller fasts. Food will no longer "have a hold on you" when you fast. Food is not meant to be worshipped.

I literally feel the same way about food lol. It's just another annoying part of life 😂

My husband is Anderson Cooper. He loves Aquavit (a Danish herb liquor that tastes like the fluids that comes out of a dying body).

Eww ,I wouldn't like growing up in that household. Weird house that has no food whatsoever
@op31295 жыл бұрын
I grew up in similar. parents made solid income, huge house, 5 acres of landscaped yard ... and almost no food. (my mom's answer when I asked 20 yrs later: "every time I bought groceries, you kids would just eat it.") but cereal and milk were ALWAYS well stocked. and sometimes eggs. (when I was a kid, we had dinner at restaurants 6.5 days a week - when we weren't at grandma's every other sunday.)

I remember my friend and I babysitting for this very wealthy family, the kids wanted snack and there were none, the cupboards were empty and the fridge only had water. The parents only dined out and had takeaway. I couldn’t understand it.

@@SASSY13169 was it a WASP household ? (meaning white Anglo Saxon Protestant). I read in a fascinating book called The Wasp Mystique way back in the 80s, as I recall, that this is fairly typical of them, some booze and little food!

@Ranch DuBois yeah ... what's weird is my mom was a good cook - both for everyday stuff (when she did so) and "company" food (they threw proper dinner parties about every month ... food was amazing. I still use those recipes.) and you'd think her not having to actually physically procure the groceries (we had housekeepers - plural in aggregate but singular at any given time) would have taken the onus off. most (4 of 7) of my siblings still don't buy groceries beyond "next two hours" (except for milk, eggs, bread ... i.e., they can all make french toast at any given moment) the quarantine of last 2-3 months has been kind of hilarious, tbh. fwiw, I have a brother who resents the absolute fuck out of buying trash bags ... for a related mom-logic reason. and a sister that has semi-violent resentment against bleach (which she continues to buy) ... bc it's part of that thought process. ("you buy it _just_ to rinse it down the drain: WTAF?") (full disclosure: I haven't fully escaped that history either, fwiw. I just have a spouse that could have written your comment ... and shops accordingly.)

Hello I agree! Food is just to survive. Eat to live not live to eat to live!
