I use my fountain pens mostly for taking notes. This includes meeting notes at work, notes from books I'm reading, information I'm transferring into my commonplace book, favorite quotes I like to copy into a notebook, notes about household tips I run across, and more. I'm about to start a nine-month cohort program at work and look forward to using my fountain pens (and a Mnemosyne notebook) for class notes. I hope to introduce some of my classmates to fountain pens.

When I was working full-time, like you, Lisa, I tried to keep journals with little to no success. In the last few years before retiring at age 70 I used fountain pens at work. However, since my work required me to write rapidly, to my chagrin, my handwriting continued to deteriorate. Four years into retired life, I'm happy to report that I am able to use my fountain pens daily, mostly in a gratitude journal, and my handwriting, as well as my attitude, have improved substantially!

I use a different fountain pen every night to do a daily review of the day. It is a one-page entry with a prayer list of personal friends who need healing. So everyday there is a different ink color. This habit is ironclad, and it lets me use my pens regularly. I also am a theologian and usually everyday I work on a mini commentary of a book of the Bible. Of course I use a fountain pen and change pens for every major section of the book. It helps me focus on a section and lets me use a lot of different pens.

We have a medically complicated dog, so we mostly use our pens for writing down when we give meds, take her outside, etc. And, my husband uses his pens to rate the beer he drinks!

Great episode! I use my pen mostly with journaling. I do long form journaling twice a day (am/pm), bullet journaling, and also journal my guitar practice. Have a great week!

I mostly use my pens for letter writing. Since resuming the use of a fountain pen 18 months ago, I rediscovered the joy of writing to friends and family - and even acquaintances. Any reason to put pen and ink (and oh, there are so many gorgeous inks!) to beautiful cards and paper works for me. The greatest benefit is the opportunity to sit and mindfully review my day/week/month as I prepare to write. Yes, I also use a fountain pen for my calendar and lists. No, I don't journal, though I suppose writing letters is a form of journaling. Another fun show, and a groaner of a joke. You are a highlight of my week!

I am new to fountain pens. I just started collecting them this year. I enjoy writing with them immensely, so much in fact, that I have begun journaling! I also enjoy using my fountain pens to send cards and notes to friends and family.

Most fountain pen usage: I do almost all my writing with a fountain pen, even though it's not always the most practical choice. To answer the question, keeping notes in my photography journal is my most frequent use. Personal journal gets notes inconsistently. As for ink usage, it depends more on the nib of whatever pen is in use. It's interesting how much beautiful ink a pen can lay down without just making a puddle. Maybe that's why I've become something of a paper snob. Thanks for another great show!

Journaling is my number one use and the crazier the ink, the better. Fountain pens are so inviting that it’s the first time in my life I’ve been consistent with the habit. My journaling is going on five years now and that is how long I’ve been using fountain pens.

I use most of my pens for writing notes and using my planner for work. I also journal but I probably write more for work than in my journal. I use my journal to experiment with unusual nibs whereas I use more standard nibs (EF, F, M) nibs in my work notebook. Those book marks look terrific. Great episode!

I mostly use my pens at work for taking notes, but also use them at home for making lists, writing down appointments, etc. But, like Lisa, I can’t get on the journaling train - although I used to do it as an angsty teenager I can’t seem to get into it as an adult. They’ll put “she used to journal” on my tombstone - lol.

My number one use for my fountain pens is creating to-do lists for completing my dissertation. I am a 50-something nontraditional PhD student and probably the only one of my cohort to use analog scheduling and tracking. As a behavior analyst, I find the physical act of writing provides a touchpoint that keeps me on task, and the pleasure of writing with a beautiful pen and ink keeps me engaged in this process. Also, I LOVE crossing an item off of my handwritten to-do list!

Journaling is what I enjoy using my fountain pens the most at. Though I use a fountain pen all the time-- to do lists, car maintenance records, enumerate ideas for future projects etc but I enjoy it mostly because I am a teacher and get to use it a lot at school ... Though faced with mostly crappy paper all around at work I do always carry a parker jotter with gel ink refill

The majority is writing in a pocket memo/notebook of things that happen during the day, and sometimes I write down items I need to get at the store. I use the short notes as an aid when I write my nightly journal entry where I use much more detail. To use my pens more, I have plans, but they are not quite fleshed out yet. My pens will help with that process.

I use my pens for work, to journal and for lists but mostly in cheap composition books while watching tv to just write down what’s is being said on the tv or the gibberish in my head. I switch pens often so the book is a rainbow. I just love seeing the ink on the page. If I was artistic I would draw with them but alas I find my artistic talent wonting (knights tale).

Good morning! Happy Best Friends Day! (August 15) Q: Why can’t you be friends with a squirrel? A: They drive everyone nuts. Good to hear Sheaffer ink is making a comeback. Any idea if they're going to bring back Red? I've been hunting for a bottle of Skrip Red that hasn't faded (it's THE red.😉) What do I use my fountain pens most for? Anything I need to write. 😁 Well, almost. Have yet to find a pen/ink combination that works on plastic or metal. Been mostly forms for my doctors, lately. Lists, notes, letters, etc. Great show as always!

I keep about 6-7 fountain pens inked at all times. I try to write something with them most days. I use them for quick notes, shopping lists and the like. I also bought a Hobonichi Techo planner from you all last fall and I have been journaling in it daily. The planner is rather small so I cannot write much in the space available, but I have been faithful in doing that every day. I want to step up to an A5 notebook for 2025 so that I will have a little more space for journal entries next year. I love writing with my fountain pens. My current favorites are my Pelikan M200, my Parker 51 and the Esterbrook SJ in Dark Copper I just purchased from you last month. I have a few other pens I work into the rotation: Parker 21 and 45, Esterbrook LJ in Green and SJ in Grey, Twsbi Vac Mini, Sheaffer No Nonsense, Sheaffer Balance Jr in Carmine, Waterman 94 and a few others including a Hong Dian M2 pocket pen.

Hi Lisa and Brian. Smokin’ joke, Brian! 🤣 I use my fountain pens for just about everything. During the week I use them extensively at work (meeting notes, quick summaries for reviewing various items with my clients, laying out ideas, etc.), crossword puzzles (daily), shopping lists, etc. On the weekends, if I get the opportunity I have a small plastic box that I keep sketching supplies in (i.e., charcoal, pencils, gum eraser, fountain pens that I use for sketching, etc.), and I pack a small day pack with my sketchbook and supplies, and hike or bike to a spot that has something that catches my eye to sketch. I keep threatening that one of these days I’ll try watercolors, we’ll see… If anyone ever considered a National Mash-up days, say, combine National Ice cream day with National Relaxation Day, and have a 2 day celebration…? Hope you both have a great weekend!
