Something else that isn't really mentioned, after you have all the decos added, it's important to reboot all of them. It takes like 5 to 10 minutes depending how many you have. It's kinda like when a phone or laptop updates it needs to restart; same with deco. I installed the deco w6000 and at first it made a very small difference and I almost returned them, then I rebooted them and now they are working perfectly and I have high speed everywhere in my house.
@andi
@andi 3 жыл бұрын
That’s a great tip thanks a lot for sharing! When I setup mine I did perform the firmware upgrade first thing so perhaps that already restarted them. You can also try the optimise tab in the deco app, that did help me when I did change the placement of the units!
@TheEchelon

I didn't have to reboot them. Seems like a specific thing for you. If it's a mandatory thing, it would do so automatically or it would be mentioned in the app as a last step.

Andi, thanks for simple easy to follow video. I bought the x55 and when first set up, had good coverage in the house. But then when upstairs, trying to download an app on my phone, took like ten minutes! This should have run much faster so starting looking at what might be the problem. When I installed my Deco, I didn't disable my orginal network so I had two networks in the house. Sooo later today, I will reset everything, and try that out. I have faith the Deco will work correctly after some tweaks. I will post an update. But thanks again for a good set up video! And thanks for mentioning the anti virus too, I didn't know they came with this, and nice to know it is very effective ;)

Hey everyone, I got a deco x55 with spectrum gigabit Internet but my wifi speeds from the decos are around 170-300. I tried rebooting but nothing occurred. Any tips?
@andi
@andi 2 жыл бұрын
Hey, I have a few tips you can try First you could check the internet speed when connected to the main deco unit and verify the maximum speed. Also check what speed you get when connecting directly via ethernet. Then if the speed looks good try placing the other units in different locations. You want to have the mesh network overlapping for best performance. For multiple stories try to 'stack' them. If it's still not as desired try connecting the deco units with ethernet as a backhaul for better speeds. WiFi can sometimes be a lot of trying to find the optimal location for each unit.

How do you set up the Deco X60 in AP mode? I don't want it distributing DHCP, but instead have my router do that.
@andi

Hey Sarah, I am not too sure if that's possible, because the deco will take over that function. It should not be a problem if you connect everything through the deco, and then to the router :)
@SarahPoulin
@SarahPoulin Жыл бұрын
@@andi I have to have the router distribute the DHCP because I have custom firmware on the router (FreshTomato) that allows me SSH access, DNSMasq, DDNS, etc). If I let the Deco distribute DHCP, then the devices are all on a different subnet and I can't access them outside of the network. I'm also using PiHole, so that's another reason. I have it figured out anyway. You have to set the Deco up as a router, then go back to the settings in the app and then there is the option to set it as AP in the advanced settings.

@@andi super fast speeds! I shut off wifi in the router for the Deco to take care of wifi. In your case, it's always best to put the router you have from your ISP into bridge mode of some kind, if you're not going to use it as a router, so that you're not double natted.

Hey, if it's split by a thick wall it shouldn't cause an issue, although if possible I would try to move them a bit further apart. Maybe opposite sides of each room, as they are mesh units your device should connect to the one that provides the best signal! But with Wifi, you really need to experiment with the placement of each mesh unit. Hope this helps!

I have purchased the same system, im not really a tech person and are having trouble. I know its basic for most. My question is should my Deco units be picking up my wifi modem through the house and into a unit. As I can connect it to my phone but im sure its the wifi modem it should be picking up and not my phone. Does this make sense. Like first installation it says connect your phone, When I take it to put it in the place l want it the light turns red and stays red. So obviously to me its not picking up the modem wifi. Help p[lease
@andi
@andi 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Greg, no worries! I think I know what’s happening. You have to connect one of the deco units via Ethernet network cable to your existing modem, as the deco units connect to each other as a mesh. The one that’s connected via Ethernet network cable is the main mesh unit, where the other points will then connect to. They can not pick up the wifi from an other modem. You can also try to move the units a bit closer and see if the reception is better!

This hasn’t really helped my situation, I have 3, the base one connected to my modem, one I tried to place into my room and the other in my basement, the one in my basement has 80 down, compared to the 150-180 in front of my modem, and the one in my room is around 30, which the latency on both of them being so bad I had to revert back to my power line adapter that I had previously used, my house format is an L shape so I’m not sure if it’s because the modem is let’s say at the base of the L and my room as at the top of the L with my console setup in the basement essentially right under my room, it’s such a headache and I’ve honestly given up this battle

Hey, in this case I can only recommend to try and place the units closer together and see if that improves the overall coverage. If it's possible to place them in a way that they got good coverage it will overall improve the range around them even if it's not in the same room. Another thing you can do is use the ethernet backhaul if possible

Hi, Actually in real life you can never hit the AX 3000 speed .By the way , my overall fiber subscription is only 1Gbps here . Thus won't it make sense to go for a deco x20 instead (also 3 if you want) but its only AX 1800. if you wanted a better output you can try for a tri-band option it may be slightly better . Do you agree ?
@andi
@andi 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Joseph! Yes that makes sense, only thing to consider is how many devices you have in the network connecting, for example you might want the faster transfer speed when using a NAS, saving and accessing files over the network then becomes a bit faster, as well if you have many devices connecting there is more bandwidth available. Otherwise yes I think that should also be fine!

@andi
@andi 2 жыл бұрын
You only need an Ethernet cable for the main deco unit, it’s so it has a direct connection to the internet via your existing router which is stable and can then create its own network and handle the traffic. It then creates a new mesh wifi network which the other units can connect via wifi as well as all your devices. Hope this helps!

You need an Android or Apple phone\tablet to set up. Really upset with Microcenter sales for giving me the wrong information ... Hey there, you'll need to connect the deco router to your ISP's modem. It doesn't require the app to be able to use it, once you've got it set up through it. There is a web panel you can access but most features need the app to work. I also think having an account might be a bit too much but it's also understandable since it has some cloud features built in :) Check out my review video after 2 months of usage, too. What makes you think this isn't a router?

@@andi Thanks for responding so I will at least remove the dislike. I am really upset with Microcenter because they're like 2 hours away, and screwed me a couple of times so I have to look for parts elsewhere. This is the last straw! I called TP-Link support and they said it's designed to only use the app. I spend most of my time at my desktop. I don't like accessing the internet with a phone or tablet. I asked Microcenter sales for a router and they directed me to a deco mesh system. I did not know much about a mesh system and I asked the salesperson if you can access it like a normal router and he said yes. If there was an app to download at the Windows Store I might keep it but there isn't one, and that is just plain ridiculous not being able to access it in Windows, and that's why I don't consider it a normal router. So it goes back and I get something else that lets me access it like a normal router, just not from Microcenter. It's also basically made for extending wifi range. When I can't access it normally I can't see how it functions and or see its capabilities. To have all my devices connected through ethernet then I lose wifi range when needed, for 2 of them would then all need to be in the same room. Since I can't access it like a normal router then I don't see what its capabilities are ... I don't like that. Right now I need a normal router for my old router is showing signs of failure. I may get a mesh system to connect to a normal router later if I need it but I really don't need a mesh system at this time. Microcenter sales screwed up and sold me something that I don't need ... and I am upset that I have not found one video explaining some of these things that spoke about concerning a mesh system. I usually do my research on something new but I trusted the salesperson. Why not one video explaining what I discussed concerning these mesh systems is a bit mind-boggling to me ... not everybody needs this type of system. *At any rate ... if you know of a mesh system that can be accessed using a Windows PC then I may consider it???*

I'm disappointed that the PSUs are so tall. It'd be cool if you could hide them more easily behind furniture.

Ah yes that's a really good point, I think it sort of goes with the units also not having USB Type C which I was a bit confused by, that could have allowed for a much slimmer adapter to be used!

the "M" in many electrical terms stands for Mega or 1 Million, MHz (Mega_Hertz) Mbps (Mega-bits-per-second), MW (Mega-Watts), MOhms (Meg-ohms) etc. no problem, just as the "G" stands for Giga or Gig, the K for Kiloas in KHz (Kilo-Hertz)

Those speeds tested are what I received from my ISP, the internal network speed is much faster and if you have a better ISP connection of course also much faster :)
