@Nerdy Nightly so when old man almost collapses, I think Andor says "Olaf", his name, to encourage just a bit longer as he does. It would be so heartless if he told the old man having his heart attack "enough!" Be so heartless ... and so not Andor.

I won’t say Andor’s the same person as we saw him in ep3, or even 4-6. It’s very subtle (it’s only been a short time and we still have a lot of character development to go after all)--he’s now someone who recruits and motivates others, instead of just following the currents

I think what happened at the prison is.. they don't let anyone out since the resentencing thing. There are seven of those buildings and I think they were letting people "out" but really just transferring them to another building, this time for some reason, they kept them in the same building but just on a different floor. There's an interview with the actress who plays Dedra and she said that Dedra will probably become the most hated villain in Star Wars history. This season is about building the world / story building both the Rebellion and the Empire, I think season two will be much more Cassian focused. And he actually has changed in this arc.. he's much more team focused now, helping the team and also genuinely caring about the people he's around.

I think the implication is that they are just recycling everyone. Instead of releasing them at their time, they just put them somewhere else. I think the mistake was keeping them in the same facility so the other prisoners found out. Still not sure how they think they can get away with no one figuring it out and potentially uprising. Also, I'm not sure they really care about small uprisings like what happened here. Still getting Andy Serkis on board is going to make it an epic sequence. I'm with you. LET'S GO!!!

I think Andor absolutely changes over the course of this season, it’s just very slow and subtle. He’s been on the brink of believing in the rebellion his whole life, is the impression I get. I think it’s really skilful and clever how he keeps *almost* getting radicalised.
@xxraptorxx8180
@xxraptorxx8180 10 ай бұрын
Exactly, it’s very subtle. The way he’s grown up in Kenari and Ferrix the death of his people, the death of Clem have made him hate the empire. But what turns the hate into fighting an uphill battle. It’s when they’ve beaten you over and over until there is no room to move. The prison arc is the culmination of that.

The prisoner who was released hade done his time. I think what they were doing is sending prisoners to a different building since the last episode showed us numerous prisons surrounded by water. The doctor said they made a mistake which was send back to the same prisoner to the same building but a different floor. The empire is exploiting people which why there are increased sentences and doubling of sentences for those already imprisoned.

Voted early last Saturday. I think I am just as nervous as you guys. (sitting here with fingers crossed.) Meanwhile, back at the space ranch, I like how on Andor, the higher up in rank you go in the Empire, at least for the one's actually pulling the strings, the softer and more mellow your tone is. That meeting sounded like they were at a restaurant ordering off a menu rather than hunting down rebels. Like they are talking about pesky flies. A simple annoyance. It makes them feel all the more creepy.

16:30 I think the takeaway you're supposed to gather is that they're not actually releasing any prisoners. They're not temporary prisoners, they're permanent slaves. When their time is up, they're just shuffling them around to one of the other prisons, or maybe to a floor and shift very far removed from their previous one, so those prisoners don't know that one. But they messed up and transferred this guy somewhere too close, and somebody knew, hey that's the guy I talk to on the other bridge (or w/e), and everybody started freaking out at the implication that none of them were ever going to be released, so they killed them to contain it.

To explain what happens to the prisoners: what the empire does is imprisoning people and use them as work force. After ur sentence you arent released. They just send u to another prison or work camp. The mistake they made was to send the prisoner who was "released" to the prison they just took him out off. The theory is that this is how they make parts for the death star and keep it low key. No one ever gets out.
@BossAttack
@BossAttack Жыл бұрын
I don't think the prisoner reshuffle is the case because then word would always quickly spread within the prison. It doesn't matter if you send someone to the same facility or another prison camp, they'd immediately tell all the other prisoners what happened to them and you'd get the same problem. I think the guards genuinely screwed up due to the new directive and them being understaffed. The prisoner was supposed to be released, but they screwed up and placed him back into the prison. Word got out and they suddenly had a riot on their hands that they do not have the staff to deal with, so they killed the entire level.
@Destroviper
@Destroviper Жыл бұрын
@@BossAttack i think both could be the case. Cassian saying "no one is getting out are they" kinda sounded like he implied no matter if u finish ur sentence u never get out. I still think the people getting "released" are either being killed or sent to another prison (and this part is important) where all the prisoners who are there had the same fate. So them telling the other prisoners what happened to him would make no difference because they know themselfs.

Strongly disagree that Diego Luna hasn't shown any standout scenes. He excels in episode 7 when he first enters the prison. His mannerisms and facial expressions were on point then. His character has changed subtly over the season. He used to more self-centered and independent in his actions. He was forced to work in a team during the Aldhani heist, which also gave him insight into the thinking of the people making up Rebellion at that point. But all the while he's rather reclusive and secretive. He doesn't start to be more open until the confrontation with the Kyber crystal Luthen gave him as collateral. At the end of it, he was still all about taking his fair cut of the money and then leaving, though he did kill Skeen because he was planning on backstabbing the rebels and taking all the money. He went to Niamos (Space Miami) to get away and start a new life. He gets caught in the prison system and he's basically in shock at how quickly things went south for him, despite his efforts. Now that he's been in the prison for at least a month, he's adapted. He's working quickly and smoothly in an assembly team, he's taking the initiative in organizing people for an escape attempt. He's learned to work better with others, admittedly probably because he had more time do so compared to the Aldhani caper where he only came in with a few days to prepare and be familiar with the team.

I don't think so. It would eliminate one of the barriers that Mon Mothma as a character has to overcome, and also, why would he be an asshole to her in private? Like even Vel and Mon can have a "real" conversation when they're alone. No reason for Perrin to not do the same, being her husband.

For me this was one of the best episodes so far. Is it only me thinking the recording used for torture is not simply kids screaming? More like some kind of telepathy, specific sound causing unusual effect in the brain? All monitoring officer just shaking below a ship's bridge isn't just hearing cruelity. You wont scream in agony and loose ability to speak hearing cruelity, no matter how heartbreaking it is. Don't forget this universe had it's unique ways, like Saw Gerrera's mind sucking creature in Rogue One. And if such things present then the Empire will use it. I have also realised Bix was as much as loose end as Andor. She saw Luthen mutliple times. The only difference is Andor saw his ship, which Luthen even mentioned. Still there were no order to "neutralize" her. So i was thinking about this, i presume someone saying "old man in robes" isn't too helpful, but if a specific, not common ship type is named that's easier to find. Also Andor is connected to a bigger terrorist attack, so treated as a bigger fish by ISB, bigger attention, so more reason to neutralize him I suppose. However if they know approx. when "Axis" was visiting Bix they could check the logs for ships coming and leaving from/to the planet every time. To counter this Luthen might have used a device to cloak his ship to not send any ID and sneaked in, or even mimiced a fake ID to trasmit, different each time. I'm sure however while traffic is thousands and thousand times bigger at Coruscant still I presume the level of security is the best there, so he might weren't able to use fake ID nor simply sneak in there. The tension at the prison was portraited so well, slowly increasing and making us wait.... So good. It's unlogical for me to reprison inmates at the same place then kill all who realised this, I'm pretty sure they fckd up, here they just lie, those to be released are to be taken to another prison where everyone is aware they won't ever gets released, and treated all the time knowing they will try anything. (this is why they fried level 2, not just shocked them dozen times to threaten) Also it's irrelevant if they overcome some guards. They are on an artificial island, no transport. The director can definitely initiate lockdown protocol, disabling guard codes, closing all. They need to capture the commander, even then the only transport is those bringing new inmates, even replacement for Ulaf, who got ill and senitised ending him. Maybe they will just time it well, still if they attack when new ones bought in the transport is long gone, they need to lure the guards just before that. One thing is sure: 1500 prisoners, sorry now 1400 cant esc... Wait a minute! If 100 were fried then with Ulaf the Empire need to transport 101 new prisoners! Minimum 5 transport shuttle! Or something bigger. Vel being the cousin of Mon was a 9 out of 10 level of suprise for me. However that scene where Karn walked to Lt. Meero was 11 out of 10. The actors acting was simply perfect. I felt even some sparks despite how awkward the situation was, how bad he flopped and how shocked she was. He admires her, and pretty sure not many try to get close to Lt Meero.... I understand this was stalking for normal people. But for two such strange characters, it might be the first step. Also some mentioned this time the Senate wasn't so empty. In my parliament when they discuss something specific, only preparing a report/law or something there are only a few present. When there is a general session especially with voting then everyone is there. I'm pretty sure those who turned down their lights were supporters of the act and the Emperor, while many not yet convinced were still open to hear Mon Monthma's argument. Many blames Mon Monthma's husband that he is just a jerk. But think about it how many of you knows someone who is bored by politics? Or don't want to talk about suffering and starving people 24/7. Not saying he can't be a total asshole, but we can't be sure, yet. And since this side of him is an obsticle to her it is shown. We can't know yet if he's got other sides too. By the way I'm curious what a low life criminal thug want to ask from Mon for 400k. I imagine him like Jabba the Hut. To support and vote for something? To delay something? Hmm. Also wonder about the leaked rebel attack arc. Maybe Luthen or even Andor sister gets involved? Superb script, talented actors, great set, good directing. So good. Now I'm heading to the movie sites to give another 10 for this episode. Our feedbacks, ratings are crucial to support such shows, and takes 1 minute to visit the two biggest. :) P. S. Craziest idea 1: Ulaf faked his illness,part of the plan (not likely) Crasiest idea 2: the thug who has money (400k) is a wealthy Chandrian. Future center of the Republic. What if he wants to fight the Empire and by the way he wants a bride, wife for his SON.... Da Da aaaaa Yep Mon's daughter. Shakalakakaaa For the Republic, honey. Craziest idea 3: a Rebel cell is planning to free the prisoners. Good for morale, to send message, to recruit. All nice and dandy... Until We see Vel with them, and in the chaos she raises her gun... Aims.... Episode ends. Goddamit you can't end it here! :)

I actually think the prison mistake is more simple than some people are making it. Due to the Public Order Resentencing Directive, their prisons are overflowing but they don't have the staff to keep everyone in line and operations running smoothly. We saw when Cassian got put in that they were even reshuffling guards around to cover shifts. What I believe happened is that a prisoner was genuinely supposed to be released and they had done so, but due to understaffing and the pressure from up-top, this same person was then incorrectly picked right back up and sent to Level 2. Their pleas likely rang as hollow as Cassian's "I'm just a tourist." Once the prisoner was back on Level 2, he lets everyone know what happened to him and suddenly the guards realize he was telling the truth and they have a riot on their hands. They do NOT have the staff to deal with a riot and also can't let word spread about their incompetence, so the kill everyone on Level 2 and blame it on an uprising as opposed to them screwing up. Now because of that, they can't let release any other prisoners for the foreseeable future for fear of their mistake getting out. And also because they've just wiped an entire floor so need as many prisoners as they have right now to keep their numbers rolling.
@rdkirk3834

I agree with your characterization of the prison situation as affected by the PORD. I think, however, that prior to the PORD prisoners actually _were_ released on schedule. However, the PORD "reconsidered" all the current sentences (read: extended indefinitely) as well as vastly increased the numbers of new prisoners. The prison officials were in a quandary and the plan to merely transfer prisoners was, I think, purely a hasty _ad hoc_ decision. That's why it wasn't well thought-out.

You don't get to hear from people again once they're taken away. The rules don't make sense, because they are not fair. Andor made the Empire look like the dictatorship it is, and guess what? I’ve gone out during an ice storm to vote before (and that was just for my city commissioner), so of course I’ll vote in the upcoming election on Tuesday. I think the writers of this series have a good understanding of how to write a prequel. They understand that the audience already knows where some of the characters end up, so instead they introduce us to unknown characters that interact with the known characters and they use the audience’s unfamiliarity with those characters to drive the tension by having us get to know and care about these characters. It’s actually really smart writing! They know that they can put the characters whose fates we already know in all kinds of danger and the audience isn’t going to be concerned. So to draw the audience into the story and have concern, they introduce us to new characters and then put those characters into danger instead. So while I agree that we haven’t seen much of Andor and his growth, I think that’s intentional because the writers know the audience watching already knows where he ends up and so that’s not actually the interesting stories. The interesting stories are about the people around Andor during his journey into the rebellion, the people around Mothma during her transition from senator to full on leader of the rebel alliance (and so on with Saw and any other characters like Melshi whom we know their future). I’m definitely looking forward to episode 10 to see what happens and how what happens pushes the characters further into rebellion and the empire further into civil war. Great video!

Another episode I was eager for your reaction for a variety of reasons. Two thoughts: 1. This series shows how amoral people can be weaponized by an evil leader. The ISB are filled with people who completely lack empathy towards others... and some who actually delight in causing suffering in others. And there are probably some true believers (the Syrils of the world). What I'm trying to convey is that Dedra and Major Partagaz would be doing either good or evil, depending on what direction they are given. They are more concerned about doing the job well instead of the results of their actions. It's the complete indifference to the welfare of others personally (as opposed to universally perhaps) which makes the Imperial Bureaucracy so chilling. 2. Andor set up Dedra to be unsettling in her sociopathy and then she is made unsettled herself by Syril. Both lack empathy, but Dedra can think beyond herself about how others may feel about her actions. Syril, on the other hand, is so self-absorbed and myopic that he seems more sinister. I was surprised that Dedra didn't just handle the problem of Syril and have him locked up and instead of merely threatening to do it. He has already demonstrated he will not let go of his perceived slight by the Empire; he will not stand down on it.

The only thing I don’t understand is: where was the prisoner from level 4 supposed to go? If he was just going to a different prison, he’d have still told his new cell mates what had happened to him, and the riot would have started at that prison instead. Am I missing something?

The next prison will be max security, somewhere the guards dont care how compliant you want to be. the point of Narkina is that its low stress, it gives the prisoners the hope that they will be released so they remain compliant. At the next place compliance will be imposed directly, possibly with a bit more carrot to go with the stick.

I think the original process actually was to release prisoners when they'd done their time. The PORD required them to hold prisoners, however, and at the same time it greatly increased the numbers of new prisoners. I think caught in that dilemma, the prison administration made a hasty _ad hoc_ decision to transfer prisoners without thinking it through.

Just fyi, the average voter turnout in the US is actually around 48%, which is just pathetic. People don't seem to realize how easily the US could become "the empire".

Yes, the US is not the benevolent republic most Americans think it is, but we're not quite a fascist state yet. It could become that very easily in the wrong hands. The problem is that no one can agree on the "right" hands. Just like some of the discussion in the prequels.

the andor in this episode is a teamplayer and seemingly took the leader role for planning the escape, which he was not during the Aldhani heist in episode 4-6. There's your growth right there. Might not be much but since it's not a 1-off season, we shouldn't expect too much development anyway. But like you said, it's not really a complaint.

I don't believe Syril's infatuation with Dedra has anything to do with attraction. He sees her as the only person who sees things the way he does, and then he's fanatical about trying to get her to see that he _needs_ to be on her side. So, incel, no, at least not concerning this. Would he lick her boots, absolutely, but it has nothing to do with attraction, imo. I was also confused as to why she's so harsh to him, because he is who brought this to a head, but then I came to believe that she's just so far up the chain from him she'd only see him as a liability that could trip up her efforts. So I wonder if he'll do something drastic to convince her to use him. 🍿

Nobody is getting out. They all are just moved. The mistake was not moving him to another Prison. When we arrived, we did see a few of them on the water. The mistake was keeping him in the same Prison. The whole episode was them holding still, believing that they will get out. But now that this hope is gone, they have the choice of dying there or dying fighting to get out.

The prison guards made a mistake and instead of sending the “release“ prisoner to another facility they recycled him within the same facility.

"Cheaper than droids and easier to replace." Well, sure, because someone other than the Imperial government produces humans. Humans are no cost to the imperial government to produce. The government can just pluck them up, like poaching an apple from someone else's tree.

I know Andor will escape, but I hope in the process that a) Kino survives and sees his family again (I know the chances are slim but still) and b) they fry a number of guards to a crisp in the process (they so deserve it).

This show far exceeded my expectations. Also, there are more elements of Fascism coming from the American Left than the Right, but people have been so manipulated by propaganda and often live in echo chambers of friends/thought groups which makes them incapable of recognizing it. The Right has many issues as well, I despise both parties, but it blows my mind how many usually rational thinking people from the Left throw the word Fascism out there while supporting politicians that want to greatly expand the powers of centralized government and use speech suppression of their opposition as a primary method in remaining in power 🤷‍♂️ Regardless of my beliefs on that, I still think you're both good people and I'll continue to watch and enjoy your videos 🙂

Disagree with Andor's arc. In the beginning he was solely out for self. He didn't want any parts of the rebellion and wasn't taking the lead. This episode is the first you see him taking the incentive and taking charge.
