André Jolivet was a French composer. Known for his devotion to French culture and musical thought, Jolivet drew on his interest in acoustics and atonality, as well as both ancient and modern musical influences, particularly on instruments used in ancient times. He composed in a wide variety of forms for many different types of ensembles.

Pianist here. Do solo guitarists play with very liberal rubato? It's a bit difficult to follow the music to the score and I'm just curious.

It really depends on the performer and I don't think that all solo guitarist overuse rubato, but some definitely do :)

@Lunar Orbit I'm a guitarist myself and I strongly disagree with your opinion. You state that guitarist have to do rubato because of the difficulty of playing the instrument itself. This is not true. Even though some guitarist may abuse rubato doesn't mean that they have to play unevenly due to lack of any other possibility. It's also a conscious choice just like on any other instrument.

@@sylwesterkukuka3592 Most guitarists plays just uneven... And I heard all sort of them, from Llobet and Segovia to the last internacional award winners. All of them are a true disaster in terms of tempo, rhythm, phrasing... All of them need so badly a metronome or, much better, play a lot of chamber music..

@@CatalogueVillalobos If in your opinion classical music is about playing accurately to the metronome than you're missing the whole point. It's a part of performance tradition to play with uneven tempo, it was the thing all the way for the oldest music of middle ages, renaissance and is present to this day. It's also a large part of musical expression. Of course there are people who overuse different thing in music and are usually bad musicians in general, but stating that 'guitarists in general are bed musicians' is basically hate. Just like stating that 'all singers can't sing in tune'.

It is Interesting to know about this pieces... But they sound to me so harsh, bitter and ugly... Or maybe is the absolutely uneven, confusing, out of balance performing that ruins the Music? It seems that this guitarist have a brain injure and can not coordinate the pulse, rhythm, phrasing... But... Most classical guitarists suffer of this, unfortunately...
