Bin sehr beeindruckt.

I’ve watched this video well over 30 times. The song is beautiful. Kimmy Skota is beautiful and her voice is beautiful. Andre Rieu and his orchestra are phenomenal. The beauty of this whole thing is enhanced by the tears that run down Andre’s face 1/2 way through it. I have trouble holding back my own tears when I watch and listen to this.

Lyrics Sometimes alone in the evening, I look outside my window At the shadow in the night I hear the sound of distant crying, The darkness multiplying The weary hearts denied All I feel is my heartbeat Beating like a drum Beating with confusion. All I hear are the voices Telling me to go, But I could never run. Cos' in my African Dream There's a new tommorow Cos' in my african Dream There's a dream that we can follow Now when the night begins to fall, I listen for your call, I listen for your heartbeat. Although my dream is just a dream, Another false illusion, A shadow in the night. All I want is for our heartbeats, The beat just as one, To silence that confusion. And the pain and the illusion, Will dissapear again, And we would never run Cos' in my African Dream There's a new tommorow Cos' in my african Dream There's a dream that we can follow

What makes this beautiful is not that it it is pitch perfect and polished, but that it captures the spirit of Africa through raw, deep felt emotion. The power of this performance is seen in the effect on the audience, including the maestro which represents everything of established Western musical culture. Her rendition does not conform to the conventions of what we expect from such performance, but rather hits on the pulse and somehow personifies a continent long oppressed and struggling for its dignity to be fully restored in the human family. Who can not be moved to tears by that? This performance is brilliant in that regard and it takes a specially gifted man like André to have the vision to see it realised.
