Taking all the components in account; technique, feeling, compositing, influence, Segovia is the best guitarist ever.

I attended one of Segovia's concerts in my home town in 1979. It was breathtaking! There is simply no one to compare him to.

Plus, notice how he plays around with the tempo as the spirit moves him. He's not constrained by purely technique. It's the Soul! The Soul plays the guitar. Technique is great, but Soul is better. It's good to have both, and Maestro Segovia had plenty of both.

Romero, Ghiglia, Barrueco, Williams, Chapdelain... all these and more amazing guitarists were students of Segovia and only succeeded because of his teachings and skill. The man doesn't sound as good as he used to here because he was like 70 when this was recorded. There is a reason why people follow his fingerings on most bach transpositions and why most guitar composers entrusted and made their repertoire so that he could play it. Without his skill and musicality there wouldn't be guitar music.

The refinement of a great artist is in details that are not readily apparent to the average person. Listen carefully to how long the low (E) string rings every time he plays it. It rings as long as he wants it to ring and no longer, because he then mutes it with a rest stroke of the right thumb which is not seen. Likewise, every note he plays, every note does exactly as he wants it to do. This is the refinement that makes for great artistry, after the obvious things are accomplished.

This is Segovia in his prime. His playing and sound are so great that even the primitive recording technology can´t varnish his brilliance. The Hauser, it appears, was a far better instrument than the latter Ramirez´ he used.

How many wrong words! Your opinion is very blasphemy one. Don't compare the guitarists, listen to only.
