Since Agadmator did a detailed breakdown of the chess part, here's my summary of the boxing part: Round 1. Both fighters moved to the centre of the ring, Andrea bouncing forward in the orthodox stance (standing side-on, left glove forward, right hand back by the shoulder, ready to throw), Dina in the more upright, European stance (forearms either side of her head in a high guard). Andrea’s left jab scored, followed immediately by high hooks looking to get around Dina’s defence, landing blows on the Russian’s ears and cheekguards. Dina broke contact, escaping Andrea’s high energy combination punches by spinning out of the pocket, and then fought off the back foot, pumping out her jab to keep Andrea at distance. It worked; Andrea was kept at arm’s length, unable to gauge the distance, and when she tried the high energy combinations that had worked earlier she would find herself punching wide, high, or bending down at full extension to land body shots, which Dina evaded. It would prove to be Dina’s high point - while Andrea found early success head hunting in looping left and right crosses, Dina found most joy pouring her offence straight down the middle. But Dina couldn’t keep Andrea off her for long; Andrea’s energy and will kept her moving forward, so that when Dina forgot to jab, a sustained Andrea combination inside Dina’s guard rocked the Russian into full retreat, Andrea pursuing her relentlessly until Dina clinched to stop the onslaught. Tired, the Russian used both arms to fend off Andrea, not so much punching now but pushing the younger woman away, backing off and disengaging to eat time up until the bell sounded. The round ended just as Andrea unleashed another alternate hand combo that had Dina wobbling unsteadily on her feet. Round 2. Dina started the round by throwing out her jab, less successfully now because whatever force it had was lessened by being thrown while moving backwards and, because the trail hand would get pushed forward with the jab it meant Dina had no follow up punch and no defence. Andrea soon walked through that jab; a hellish Botez hayemaker sent Dina into full retreat and a swarming Andrea cut the ring off, re-engaging in several mini Alamos where Andrea’s superior punch output would rout Dina into conceding ground. Dishearteningly for Dina, whenever she did land Andrea would take it on the chin and keep moving forward. After one such right-left-right combination, Andrea forced a standing eight count. After that, Dina clinched, leaning on her opponent to slow her down, tying up the arms that had been winging in those fast, accurate hooks. Too, Dina adopted a more crouched stance, and the smaller woman presenting a smaller target behind her raised forearms seemed to momentarily slow Andrea’s offence. With twenty seconds to go Andrea mustered one last, sustained assault, an eight punch onslaught that had Dina slumped against the ropes but the bell rang before Andrea could land the knockout blow. Round 3 Credit to Dina’s corner, her trainer spent a LOT of time imparting instructions before the start of the round. Andrea’s corner man said a few words too, but not with the intensity that Dina’s trainer did. That strategy soon became apparent - Dina backing away out of arm’s reach so Andrea couldn’t easily engage. And whenever Andrea did connect with long straight jabs, Dina would already be moving backwards, taking the force out of it. But then Andrea cut the ring off, stepping inside Dina’s path to land a left hook to the top of the head that made Dina stumble, and Andrea’s follow up forced another standing eight count. When Andrea moved forward to re-engage, Dina moved sideways and back, circling the ring to stay out of harm’s way, throwing just enough punches (one) to not have the ref call the fight for Andrea. A clinch inside the final minute ate up the time, and when the ref broke them apart Dina took the time to breathe deep and back off. Needing a knockout in the next 40 seconds, Andrea caught a retreating Dina flush on the ear, leading to the second standing eight count. Apparently, this match had a three knockdown rule, so if Andrea could force a third standing eight count in the same round she would win on a TKO (technical knockout), and though she pressed ever forward, the referee stepped in twice to force the fighters apart, giving Dina the time needed to get to the end of the round and get back to the chessboard.

@@kingofgamez83 I believe Andrea said she had 6 weeks. So she had a double disadvantage and was still able to pull through and basically destroy Andrea in the chess (besides that missed mate in 1)

The position on the board was pretty even until this pawn to g3 move 10:30. With far more time on the clock and now a much better position on the board Belenkaya was dominating in chess. Botez annihilated in the boxing though and actually got a TKO in the last round but for some reason the ref didn't call it. Even the commentators ignored the third count even though seconds before saying Botez would win by TKO if another count happened. They both kind of won but for some reason the referee and commentators decided that third count never happened despite it being caught on camera, which is dodgy as hell. They both won but Andrea won first. What that ref did was the equivalent of saying play on with a checkmate on the board, totally absurd.

Weird strategy all around, especially for Lawrence and Dina. If you're rated over 2000 in chess why not take a few weeks to learn the simple stuff like how to clinch and the basics of jabbing and working on your footwork and pivoting. That should allow you to survive a few rounds of boxing. Dina and Lawrence were just walking into punches.
@vigneshpb92 жыл бұрын
I think she definitely did learn and practice it was more about having the stamina to last that long especially because Andrea has been into fitness for a much longer period and she could probably hold her own for a long time and she just needed to learn the boxing part, while Dina needed to do a bit of both. You could see her being incredibly exhausted in the match (not putting down her efforts though, it definitely is hard to hold out the way the contestants did considering they're all amateurs) trying to hold it out for as long as she could, even if she was able to throw some punches I'm not sure if it would have done any significant damage to Andrea

Why didn't the ref forfeit Andrea for stalling in chess? Dina even gave Andrea a chance: Up 3min on time but misses a mate in 1? As if. And Andrea stalling in chess: Against the rules? Stalling in boxing isn't. No robbery here? --- Look it up: in chessboxing, it's against the rules to stall in chess, but it's not against the rules to stall in boxing. --- Edit 1: Look at 22:16 - 22:34 in pHLcyYsfxB4 Andrea stalls for 18 seconds? It seems the rules of chess boxing need a bit more refining. In normal boxing, not getting the KO but winning 100% of the rounds in a dominant fashion is a very clear win, but in chess boxing it's completely nullified by a fairly average, evenly contested game in the chess. Similarly a very dominant but unfinished game of chess could be completely nullified by a stoppage in a fairly evenly contested boxing section. In either case the dominant party might reasonably feel a draw or judges' decision would be a fairer result.

You can feel differently, but I think ot sucks and the match would be more interesting if they truly didn't allow it.
@mtaur41132 жыл бұрын
@@miloradowicz You could also argue that individual chess moves should have a separate timer, and I wouldn't be against that. I didn't see that part of the stream, and it sounds vague and subject to interpretation. Just call it 15 seconds or whatever and always enforce it, if they want any rule at all.

Andrea won. Dina lost. That ref was abysmal. He had three stoppages which meant TKO. Dina's chess was superb.

It was fun to watch, but the boxing referee was definitely interfering to get the match back to the chess board.
@dxnce75932 жыл бұрын
According to the Rules There's 3 stoppages in the last round and 4-5 stoppages in Total so that means Andrea won TKO both ways, the referee was shtt either he got paid to rig it or he bet on Dina winning & want to get some money!

andrea absolutly knocked Dina out, the Ref was RIDICULOUS. Andrea destroyed Dina, it was brutal, she should have been given the win. Was absurd.

Chesswise Andrea is at the level of a decent club player and Dina almost IM level. So Andrea did really well to hold on and compensate in the boxing.
@bengardner86392 жыл бұрын
Dina is literally a WGM, not just "almost IM level"
@martinpaddle2 жыл бұрын
@@bengardner8639 the rating requirement for WGM is 2300, while for IM it's 2400. She got her IM norms but narrowly missed out on the required 2400 rating. So saying "almost IM" is actually better than WGM.

I don't know who tf put A Grandmaster like Dina against someone who is not and Expect them to win! Its Mismatched The difference in not even close, Also Andrea usually use London so Dina definitely prepared before the match to that,she planned how to win against Andraa london! It's unfair tbh they should put Dina against GM like her & Andrea against someone who closer to her chess to make it fair tbh! The boxing was more fair bc They both trained for 6 weeks Andrea clearly trained harder for hours bc she know she had disadvantages so she had to train hard & hope for the best

@jessejordache18692 жыл бұрын
One inch is nothing. What you should notice, even though it's a promo photo, is Andrea is leading with her left shoulder, which is correct (assuming she's right-handed). Dina's just putting her fists together. Already read in the comments that Andrea won the boxing part of it, which is what you'd expect from the photo.

If it were male players, there would be a good chance that the 28 year old would win at both chess and boxing vs a 20 year old guy, if they are at a reasonable physical fitness for professional chess players. The difference in energy level in the boxing match and the difference in the level of moves played on the board was clear.

spoiler. the interruptions by the ref were way too long.. andrea had to knock out dina in the third round and i believe she would have if it wasn't for the ref constantly interrupting the match. it was incredibly exciting to see them go into this third round knowing what's at stake but then everything was ruined. the crowd was furious, booing the show and rightfully so. in all honesty, andrea won in my heart: he was better on the ring and she was equal on the board; dina robbed herself of being better on the board when she missed a mate in one. big heart to her for being so kind and humble to her opponent after the match had finished.
