I thoroughly enjoyed BrownMark’s book (listened to the Audible). I especially appreciated his recognition of the plight of American Indians and revisionist history of events that occurred (and continues to take place). My sisters and I were front row and standing right in front of BrownMark at The Revolutions concert at First Ave this past June 2024. Awestruck and lifelong dream! Mark had us jumping up and down to his funky bass playing and sounds of The Revolution! Thank you, Andrea.

I was there at that Rolling Stones concert at the Coliseum. They also had The J. Geils Band, George Thoroughgood… but first there was that Prince band. Man I was so embarrassed by the lack of humanity towards them! What was really weird was that over the intercom they played the usual Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Jimi Hendrix…and bands like that. And when Prince came on, his bands sound was not that much different than the combination of the bands that came over the intercom… but it had a danceable beat to it. I was with a bunch of my high school graduating class… way up high in the stadium… (‘some of us literally!) so the bands almost looked like ants. Then after about a minute the ants started moving in a chaotic way near the front of the crowd. It was mayhem. And soon the band left. That was the quickest show I had ever seen! From that vantage point, I couldn’t see what the band was wearing, but in the Los Angeles Times they showed Prince wearing… well… not much! I wish I still had that article! But again… the inhumanity that I saw was as if the world was going to explode if one more note was going to be played. I could go on… but any time I see any of Prince’s old band members play, I hold them up to being pioneers in music history. And Mark played more than great music. He is part of why Prince’s legacy went so high… and why todays music often tries to replicate what they did together.
