My late Mom tore our beds down every spring, made us haul them outside on a porch that got morning and midday sun, had us take brooms and beat the mattresses, then left them to cure in the sun. Wiped the bed frames down and washed the bed slats and let them dry. After everything was cleaned, wiped down and dried, everything was put back together. Made the bed smell so fresh.

@@cosmicblondelover6830 Oh they aren't into materialism, tell that to my 18 year old twins, and all those young people breaking into/and burning down buildings, just to get high end material goods, and "make a statement." Most kids these days aren't walking around with clothes from Wal-Mart. If you think these last couple generations are full of wisdom, you must not be very wise. I have, also, never seen such bullying, as I see in the kids, today. You must be living on a different planet, than I am. My daughter is one of the most compassionate people I know, but I am not going to say she is wise. When you know the definition of wisdom, you wouldn't say they are very wise, at all.

Yes another way to make people buy mattresses more often. I have been married 59 years. Flipping mattresses was great. Rotating a mattress is gross as my husbands feet are then by my head. Now I love him but he sleeps on his and I sleep on my side and hate to think what I’m sleeping on even. Leaned its friends or motels. Even his head sweats and I don’t kay on his side. But I use baking soda plus I’m used corn starch on wet mattress or especially on cleaned carpet pet stains. The corn starch sucks up the residual urine tgat went into the carpet and pad. It had turned yellow or darker and very hard and you need to use a spoon to scrape off and also then vacuum. My mom taught me this 60 years ago. Just amazed at what you think is a cleaned carpet. Good video.

Exactly!! Cold not warm water!! And don't dab and push the stain into the fabric and stuffing or cushion! Should rub in a circular motion and dab with a dry cotton cloth to pull the soapy water and stain OUT of the fabric. You see yellow on the mattress because you set the stain with warm water!!! And you pushed the salad dressing into the mattress cover. Also in regards to bed pillows, covering them with a cotton zippered pillow protector and then a pillow case will keep you pillows cleaner longer.

Really Love your videos. Most of these methods are long lost cleaning methods - before companies started to replace natural ways with commercial ways for profit. I was also one that was sucked in by many of the commercialized ways & learned to live with them even though they didn't work near as well as "old fashion" natural ways! Now I am going back to natural ways, thanks to you Andrea Jean! One question- would it be better to create your baking soda & vinegar/water/alcohol into a paste & then apply it to the stains? I also like to brush the dried baking soda concoction with a cleaning brush & then vacuum - not re-wetting the stained area. What do you think?

I love how down to earth you are! 'Try not to eat in bed, I know it's hard!' LOL! Priceless!!! This video was interesting. I just spray my mattresses and pillows with Lysol at each sheet change. However with covid, I haven't seen Lysol in our stores in over a year! I have to order it from Amazon at 10 bucks a can! And like this month because of artic blasts, I just got my Lysol cans today after a couple of weeks delay. So I'll be using your method if this happens again! Thank you very much for the info!

Just a thought, don’t use warm or Hot water on stains. Hot/ warm water will “Set” stains. Try using COLD Water 1st or Cold Club Soda will work EVEN Better. Love your Videos 💗

Great job. I used my carpet cleaner to clean my mattress because I make my own solution using hot water, tide, odorban and fabric softener. I will add this disclaimer it takes a good 4-6 hours for your mattress to dry completely. Also I recommend putting the mattress on the floor so you can apply more pressure. 🤷🏽‍♀️ anyway it works for me. Great video. Thanks for sharing ❤️

Hi Andrea, I;m not sure if you are aware but if you have a stain, the idea is to put baking soda on it when the stain is wet and the soda will lift the stain out as it dries and then you vacuum it.

My mold and allergy expert told me to spread dry borax on my mattress and either leave it or I could vacuum it up after an hour and it would kill most organisms that cause allergies including dust mites. He also recommended to use it on your carpet. Spread it and after an hour you vacuum it up. Another way to cut down allergens is to put half a cup of Borax in your wash where you put the bleach. He was a microbiologist. Unfortunately, he died rather young (43) in a motorcycle accident on vacation. But he was brilliant at removing mold and allergens from a house.

@@soniaskolnick3868 Basically, you use a 10% solution of chlorine in water and spray it on the mold. If it's in wood, you can spread Copper naphthenate over the wood after first spraying the 10% chlorine solution.
@soniaskolnick3868

@@KimInCalifornia thanks, but I have read and observed before that chlorine only gets rid of the surface discoloration and does not eliminate the hyphae so it regrows.
@KimInCalifornia
@KimInCalifornia 3 жыл бұрын
@@soniaskolnick3868 only if you fail to stop the moisture from getting to it. I assure you, I made my big money off of mold and mildew problems from poor construction by developers (I'm an attorney) and my mold experts always recommended chlorine and the removal of the source of moisture from hard surfaces like tile, wood (unless you had string rot) and many other surfaces. If the drywall was wet, we had to cut one to two feet above the moisture line and discard it. If it's soft furniture, you might have to throw it out, especially mattresses. But hard surfaces only require a chlorine solution. We used to clean a carpet and then retest for mold. However, mold won't grow without a source of moisture. In California, many builders used greenboard in the wet areas inside the baths and showers. It was only rated for moist areas, not wet areas. We would remove a tile and find Staychybotros almost every time. They used greenboard until they started getting sued in the early nineties for doing so. The manufacturers of greenboard have never recommended it for wet areas, so the builders paid out their noses for going cheap in the bathrooms by using greenboard instead of backerboard.

If your vacuum has a HEPA filter, this should not happen as the particles are not fine enough to go into the engine. Make sure you clean the HEPA filter after doing so, though, as if it gets damp at all, it will clog the filter. If you have HEPA and it is happening, it's likely time to replace the filter. I use mine to vac up baking soda all the time and have never had an issue.

Can someone tell me if a plastic mattress cover that encases the entire mattress is any good? Would that help to keep debris from seeping into the mattress?
@catfaoro5433
@catfaoro5433 3 жыл бұрын
It protects the mattress like a ziplock bag so that's good but I find that all my bedding moves around more now because it's plastic. I have the matress sack, and have since added a pad...It's easier to wash the pad and periodically just do the mattress sack.... The large sack around the mattress is quite difficult to take off and put on by yourself even with two people if you're like us and we have a foot board and headboard. The mattress was very expensive and it has a warranty and if it gets any stains it voids the warranty.
