I was originally going to post: How is it fast and easy if you have the longest video on KZbin pertaining to bleaching whites, Instead, I'm going to use the seven minutes I saved to thank the commenters for warning me that you made a video of how you failed but titled it like you succeeded. Thank you my fellow KZbinrs, I shall pay it forward

I was doubtful because of the comment below but you were truthful, straight to the point, transparent about this being an “experiment,” and extremely helpful. I think the title is correct because it did whiten the clothes and every KZbin video has clickbaity titles so I can’t blame you there.

No joke, I let some very badly-stained white clothing soak in a bucket of water with a double dose of RESOLVE oxi-action for an entire week! It came out sparkling white without any trace of stains. It might not be the fastest way to get laundry done but it gave me great results!

Recently I watched a video to clean the range filters. Mine were super dingy, in spite of me regularly cleaning them. The video said to soak them in the sink filled with HOT water and baking soda. After soaking for 10-15 minutes, I added boiling water and let it sit a couple more minutes and began scrubbing. The sink water looked filthy and I can’t believe all I used was baking soda and hot water. I realized the reason my filters kept getting dirty so quickly is because I needed to clean the grease inside the range hood vent area. I used a scour daddy and dawn powerwash and all the grease came out! After all of this, I thought to apply the same concept to cleaning rags. I filled a medium sized trash can with some HOT sink water and a cup of baking soda. I soaked the rags for a few hours before washing them with detergent, oxiclean, baking soda, and washing soda. The cleaning rags turned out great! Not all the stains came out but they were bright and clean! I did the same thing with some dingy white clothes that I had. In the bucket with the hot water, I added oxiclean, washing soda, and borax. I soaked the clothes overnight. In the clothes was a white shirt that had some color transfer on it, a white shirt I had sprayed with Shout and washed twice but the stain was still vaguely there, among other dingy clothes. After soaking and washing, the results were impressive! I don’t know why more people don’t talk about simply soaking your clothes in hot water and baking soda or washing soda, or oxiclean. Try it! It really works!

You are 100% correct. The sun will whiten things up and sterilize them. I leave them on the close line even after they are dry for a couple of hours. My mother also taught me that when I used cloth diapers back in the day. As for the blueing liquid works well on cotton but not so well on synthetic fabrics. I love cotton sheets so I use it occasionally on them. Also, bleach has a tendency to yellow cloth out over time.

Andrea. Did you know that the oxi clean that you're using actually makes a specific OxiClean just for your whites?!!! I swear by it!!! I also keep a bucket by my wash tub full of 50/50 vinegar/ water and baking soda to soak my dish towels and dish rags in. I usually soak them the day before I am going to wash them. Just enough to cover the load. That works amazing also! from time to time throughout the day as I'm changing out other loads I will reach in with the rubber glove and swish the stuff around for better coverage. also if I noticed that stuff has more stains and isn't coming as clean I will add a little bit more vinegar. Just be prepared because it will cause that chemical reaction and the bucket could overflow. However I do bounce back and forth with the cleaning methods as I find that that works better. One more last thing to note... On the recommended usage, that is merely a recommendation. Try adding twice the amount of OxiClean recommended in a bucket or your washer. Add scalding hot water & put in a condiment bottle that you can squeeze to put on to spot clean. Just make sure to use an added extra rinse cycle.

I always leave my whites for the last wash of the day. I use baking soda (1 cup) to washer filled with warm water and agitate for about 10 minutes and then suspend wash for the night. Next morning I finish the cycle and set up a second wash with cold water and Dawn Powerwash (1/2 cup). The clothes are white, fresh, stripped of any bleach or softener residue and lovely to wear. By the way, I wash all my clothes inside out because that’s the side worn next to the body.

The best way to keep socks white is to first make it a rule not to walk around the house in them. Wear slippers only. The second tip is to wash white or light colored socks by hand hand at the end of the night. This also works for underwear. The longer the soiling stays on the garment the more it sets in. Of course most people won't keep up with this but there are some robot people out there that do this. Not walking around in socks, and only putting clean feet in shoes, also keeps fabric soles of the shoes from staining.

Would appreciate suggestions from the community. I learned the hard way using bleach with my current washing machine, a Maytag Bravos XL Steam model, maybe 4 -5 years old. I’m very careful about using bleach. For years I used a font-loader but never felt it got clothes really clean, or wet, for that matter so I went back to a top loader. The Maytag is a top-loader and has a huge drum. Too big and too deep now that I have had it all these years. Unfortunately, after using bleach during a white cycle, I noticed that the color wash I did a couple days later came out streaked in places. Apparently, bleach residue remained on the side of the drum. I think some even remained on the inside of the dryer drum because further streaking seemed to have occurred. I can’t use bleach anymore. Suggestions for something that will help with whites but safe for colors? P.S I loathe this particular Maytag model.

I use Laundry soap, cleaning vinegar plus Borax. I soak for an hour to overnight- I get amazing results. I believe the soaking makes the difference. With another set treatments, I’ve removed decades old blood stains with a series of separate steps: including Oxy, hydrogen peroxide, borax, vinegar.... I’m my family’s spot Queen 👑

My mom whitened my dad's shirts by spreading them on the grass in the rain. The rain water and the grass are very good for washing the stain and whitening your white clothes.

Not wasteful at all. Perfect cleaning rags, that's what I do. 🌞 Bleach on socks and after soaking I use a small cleaning brush. Works pretty well too. Lol. Back in my younger years that is. 💜

Use cream of tartar instead of bleach, or hydrogen peroxide, soaking in hydrogen peroxide also gets blood out of clothes as well

soaking clothes in Peroxide ( and boiling water) does it! You’ll be shocked!! You’ll need a few bottles tho.

Great video showing the 2 processes. I live in England so I don't know if we have Borax but I use Bicarbonate soda in my washes. Thank you for doing this helpful video.👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻😍😍💕💕🐶🐶🇬🇧🇬🇧

Borax works really well to clean my childrens pee clothes. I douse the load of laundry with vinegar first bc Im extra. Then I add Borax and fragrance beads. I dont use soap bc I heard the soap is just like the fragrance beads and adds a waxy coating to the stains. But the vinegar really strips the clothes. So I just use the vinegar to strip the smell. Borax to neutralize any leftover smells and them fragrance beads for smell🥰 I dont know if my method makes sense but it comes out smelling really nice.

I heard vinegar & baking soda destroys the washing machine and will void the warranty.

We sweat into our shoes via our socks every day. Shoes need to be rested to dry. Handwash your socks school kids daily. Buy new socks weekly. Less fungal spread. Elastic tourniquets ankle area after first washing. Inhibits venous return to heart from extremities. Buy less junk at stores. Buy new socks and think disposable regarding them and face cloths and dishwashing sponges!
