I think it is funny how cards like Uro, Phlage and Psychic Frog would have had a harder time before people quit playing Path to Exile and other exile removal.

But Path always gave a land and acceleration. It isn’t as clear cut as path good because of exile.

Path is just a bad card. It used to be played at a time where there wasn’t anything better/as efficient. Now there is march; ending; binding; solitude…. And some of them are still not seeing as much as before.

I think the ban list has cards on it that should obviously never be unbanned like Blazing Shoal, Chrome Mox, Hypergenesis, Hogaak, the Artifact Lands, etc but there are cards they could unban to shake things up without breaking the meta in half like Ponder or Punishing Fire.

With all the grave hate, low curves, 3+ toughness creatures, etc. Is there really a reason for punishing fire to be on the ban list. I feel like the only reason its still there is literally because it does nothing if it was brought off, but hey... if twin can come back there's hope.

The other card is Helping hand. Still great with occulus despite putting it on the battlefield tapped, since occulus still creates a blocker with manifest dread

recomission is interesting to bring back a destroyed artifact hate card but that is quite fringe, and the downside of +1 mana no cycling makes it not ideal

The issue with that I think is that its clearly worse than Unearth so unless you really want to play UW rather than UB its not worth it. And with Frog and Fatal Push heavily incentivising UB you´re not dropping black

i think it's a good way for them to shake up modern meta, when there are no new sets coming to modern. next unban batch should be: Birthing pod Uro Jitte artifact lands. Could see them unbanning Gravetroll, summerbloom, ponder, Grief and Fury

@ would it be good against Oculus, sure, but it doesn’t kill it. That’s like saying that Voidwalker kills the Oculus deck. Oculus already plays a ton of removal, you can only realize 1 card per turn AND it requires mana investment every time. On top of that, to remove creatures you’ve got to play the worst color in Modern. As much as I hate to admit it. Black is probably the second worst color in Modern, so on top of the mana investment and limit of one card removed/turn, you’re playing the two worst colors. Most other graveyard hate options are much more efficient.

You don't think a chrome mox unban would make breach a better deck? Affinity? Those would be the best decks if chrome mox was unbanned, you disagree? Fast mana with significant downsides like metalcraft, additional costs, etc narrow the number of deck archetypes that can benefit from the fast mana - similar to the reasoning for simian spirit guide banning. Not that I necessarily agree or disagree - it's a format philosophy decision, not a card strength issue. I agree in terms of card strength chrome mox is probably fair enough compared to some of the recent printings but it goes against the design philosophy and the intended diversity of the modern format. As a player of over 20 years and an enthusiast for 10+ of those years, with many boxes of bulk i'll never need, I'd say I don't play either of those formats anymore and I can see both sides. "Isn't chrome mox legal in legacy? If you want to play chrome mox in your modern deck just play legacy and add force of wills." ~ said some R&D exployee, probably.
